Then you must have been asleep for a long while after 2018 Oly's or are (wilfully?) ignorant of the threats Alina received IRL - a video by a popular Russian fs blogger saying she wants to "smash Alina's face" and telling her viewers to "break her legs" is still available somewhere on Youtube despite numerous reports since apparently some irrelevant Tatar girl's life doesn't matter enough - among the few of "no one threatening" her kind.

Hope you never have to experience this kind of "nothing".

And reeling off a list of examples of other skaters being treated badly doesn't make the treatment of Alina OK, it just means that many skaters experience harassment and negativity, which is a problem not "nothing" :confused2:

To Flanker: By the way, if it makes you feel any better about all the passive-aggressive posts, "I like Alina but ... ", believe me, this is nothing. No one is saying that the ISU should take away her Olympic gold medal. No one is threatening to kill her. As was the fate of Aldelina Sotnikova in 2014.

In fact Alina received many threats on her instagram after Olympics, but she never talked about this.

I can only imagine that the popular Russian blogger was a Medvedeva fan. They're a ferocious bunch, to be sure.

What is sad is that this sort of thing has become so is "popular" around the world in the Twitter culture.

You don’t need to accuse a whole fandom for things that a couple of online crazy haters do. Your favorite skater doesn’t determine your character as a fan. In fact, by your standards, I must remind you that lots of self-proclaimed “Alina fans” threatened Evgenia too. We can’t blame fandoms for what crazy and innapropriate people do online.

:drama: Neither his post about Zagitova's problems being "nothing" nor this latest post means anything that deep.

Yes. Plus she is a rassist, homophobe person. I have seen her IG. That was enough.

I'm here to be a tiny bit peeved that Anna Shcherbakova didn't feature in the best newcomer nominations for ISU's skating awards. I feel she had a fantastic season, despite the naysayers, and it just doesn't seem quite right to exclude her. Oh well. It is what it is, and she has her medals and her quads and her beautiful sense of music.

There are more things I totally don't understand, like Alina not in MVS, according to the definition I can hardly imagine someone (beside Hanyu, probably) more fitting for that. And Anna behind You (and I'm sorry, behind Sasha too) is another awkward case. But nah, some awards. Medals and competitions are what matters.

I don't understand why they didn't choose her either, over Trusova. She had consistently better results.

I think Sasha’s SB was higher.
But although I prefer Sasha, I agree that Anna is a better fit for the best newcomer award despite that SB.

To me, the bigger snub is behind You, not Sasha. Yes she beat Sasha, but I think that Sasha has started a revolution in ladies' skating. That is a huge deal. She is the one that took the risk and competed that quad after years of no one doing it, and really was the first one to consistently attempt (and land) a quad/quads in ladies competition. Results are very important, but Sasha has managed to go beyond results and change the face of skating.

But, Anna should've absolutely beaten You. They both won their nationals and got second at 4CC/Euros respectively, but Anna won two Senior GPs, and got second at the final which Young didn't even qualify to. Didn't she also beat Young at a challenger too? Not to mention Anna is also part of this quad revolution and has set a few quad records. She also remains undefeated in the freeskate this year (!!). I suspect the only reason she is not on there is because they didn't want three Russians in one category, or because the Russian voting cancelled her out. But once again, Anna is left out. Just like people last year saying "sHe shOuLd sTaY juNiOr", and things like that. What will it take for people to stop underestimating Anna Shcherbakova?

I agree about Twitter and other online attacks from any group on any person, even those who feel they are defending someone's honor. Not needed and why GS disfavors Board dragging:)

And I can see the irony dripping from your post about Zhenya's "ferocious" fans  Everyone has ferocious fans, and they should, but if Zhenya inspires such loyalty, good for her:hap10:

Seems like they wanted to include a non-Russian lady, so they nominated Anna for best costume instead in order to make a space for You. I understand wanting to include You, as her success this season was a bit unexpected given her inconsistency in Juniors, but her results don’t compare to Anna’s.

While I don’t believe Anna’s costume was best in execution, the concept and affect it had on the audience seemed to be really effective, so I think she has a good shot at winning that category.

Off topic, but the worst snub IMO was no Sui/Han. The current WC, GPF and 4CC champions (...and no pairs included at all?)

TAT has spoken (google translate):

“I don’t see a single extra name on the list of nominees. I think Alina’s absence in her is due to the fact that she didn’t finish the season and announced a suspension of her career. This is logical for me. Why do I need to vote for a girl who has suspended her activities and not skated season? " - said Tarasova.

“Alina’s fans should not be upset. She had great programs, she just didn’t prove them and interrupted her work without speaking at either the national championship or the European championship,” the honored coach of the country added.

This would make perfect sense to me if Ari Zakarian hadn't responded on his IG to fan's questions. Saying what he did about her 'team' not helping her to be nominated. Refusing to clarify that statement or elaborate further. He just told anyone concerned about it to write to the ISU. Interesting choice on his part.

This event was supposedly organized by him and now it seems he has washed his hands of it. He hasn't even promoted it on his IG.

He could have gone with TAT's version of reality and probably saved himself a lot of trouble. Instead he kind of outed what's going on with these awards. Which is fine. This ISU can do what it wants (it always does) but a little transparency would be nice.

It's good to have loyal and devoted fans. But I think it can turn into a knife that cuts both ways. It's important to acknowledge that skaters have inspired love in people. That is a truly beautiful thing. It's equally important to note that skater's are in no way responsible for the actions of their fans. And they shouldn't be held responsible to preventing or trying to stop those actions.

Not that I don't appreciate it when they do try to put a stop to it. At one point Maxim Trankov was getting seriously 'insulted' by people claiming to be fans of Alina. :(
Alina mentioned in an interview that she had 'very good relations with Trankov' trying to get people to stop. Hopefully, it helped.

However, they should absolutely do whatever is in their power NOT to egg those fans on or encourage them, overtly or subtly, to harass someone else. By now we all know that there is a segment of every fandom (skating or otherwise) that lives up to the 'fanatical' definition. :(

Also what Adelina went through was shameful and heartbreaking. I still feel bad for her.

(...)
And that was (and is) a hard way. Here is an interesting clip that shows this again.
