2014 Champs Camp - Aug. 23 - 27, 2014

Jason's new LP is Tristan et Iseult and the SP is Juke. He hasn't changed anything. I think maybe you mixed him up with Yulia who is changing her program? There are so many threads sometimes it is easy to forget which thread you're in :p

After Riverdance, it's hard for me to imagine Jason skating to Tristan but that's not to say he can't do it well. I'm just not sure it suits his personality; then again, Wagner isn't exactly my cup of tea -- and that's putting it mildly. Still, for Jason, I'll deal with it.

If he's going for contrast from last year, though, Tristan will probably get the job done!

I've seen the video from Glacier Falls and it's actually a beautiful program. That boy is incredibly gifted in the musicality department.

I think it is better to look at his programs as a set this year. Juke is very very different from T&I. Juke is a little more playful, and let's him smile and show off his personality. T&I shows that in contrast to the fun playful Jason, he can also be a serious/dramatic performer. I am not crazy about T&I, but I can see some strategy behind it, and I do like that his two programs are rather different. I think they may be trying to show the figure skating old fogies that yes he can be a traditional skater as well, and there could be some judges that like seeing him play by the rules.

Also Tristan and Isolde is a Celtic legend. . . so we do still have a little Irish in there.

It is also worth remembering that Riverdance was intended to be a two year program, but that kinda changed when it went viral. So they had to find something fast that would work well with flexibility in mind much sooner than expected. Add that to the fact that he his short was used two years now, so he had to learn a new short this years (arguably) and the meticulous planning his team has been doing kinda had to be rewritten.

I guess it is still possible to get helpful Champs Camp feedback even if one partner has to skate without an injured partner.

(Kayne and O'Shea have swapped very supportive and affectionate tweets back and forth. Sweet.)

So .... I guess the Champs Camp team-building activity must be on tonight's agenda?? [ETA, or on Tuesday's?? I got my days mixed up .]

As well as a ShibSibs video shoot most likely??

He's not skating to the Wagner Tristan but to a piece written by Maxime Rodriguez. It's an effective piece in its way b/c it's quite dramatic but not nearly as beautiful as the prelude to the Wagner, unfortunately. But I like what he's doing with it a lot.

I've watched Jason's Tristan and Isolde program multiple times and I am convinced it is going to be absolutely enthralling, albeit a very different feel than Riverdance. Heehee

MK's Winter, StitchMonkey, papagena, aromaticchicken -- thanks to all of you for the info re: Jason's Tristan. I'm feeling much better now! (heaves sigh of relief )

They're having a lip-synching contest at Champs Camp today. Please, please please for the love of Plushenchrist I need VIDEO. LOTS OF VIDEO.

Somehow Champs Camp seems less fun than in years past. THere seems to be less media/coverage this year.

Lip-synch video apparently is forthcoming on the USFS YouTube channel.

Goofy version of the 2014 class photo. :) Much more fun than the serious one.

eta, LOL , for example, at the mock smooch from Max Settlage in the direction of rinkmate Angela Wang. See also Shnapir pulling Bates' ears.

ETA: Speaking of Max Settlage, I was hoping that Champs Camp wold be an outlet for his talent for illustration. And he did not disappoint -- with his whimsical self-"portrait" and series of "Flat Stanley"-esque photos (links for two of the many examples are below):

Probably because we aren't going into an Olympic season and many of the skaters there are "Newbies" to Champs Camp.
