Czisny & Hughes delayed by bad weather.

Oh no - that's awful for both of them. I wish them both the best - but somehow, I think Hughes will handel this and I worry more about Czisny - good luck to them both!

How did Kimmie manage to get out (I assume she had already left before the weather hit)?

This is becoming the usual story for Alissa. It seems that every competition brings with it travel problems for her. :ohwell:

I think it would do Allisa good actually, shaking off the presure.
I hope so, too. Two of her greatest skates were Skate America and Skate Canada in 2005, when she found out only at the last minute that she would be competing at all (replacing Sasha, IIRC).

Seems that better planning could have prevented this. Why not allow for possible inclimate weather and leave sooner rather than later?

I would assume in Hughes' case it could have to do with school... and quite possibly Alissa as well...

This could be a bummer for both ladies. At practices, observers said some skaters had difficulty adjusting to the ice surface.

Kwan didn't practice on the ice before the QR in 2004 in Dortmund, and she had a dreadful skate as a result. Her bad QR took her out of the hunt for the gold medal and she had to settle for bronze.

Neither Hughes nor Czisny is as consistent a jumper as Kwan was. If they don't skate good SPs, they can take themselves right out of medal contention.

Let's be honest, neither is a serious medal contender. From those scattered practice reports, I have a hunch that Mao is going to wipe the floor. The other two spots are likely to be contended by Kimmie, Kim and Kostner. I don't know why, but have this strong feeling that Kostner will land on the podium. Miki will likely have another disappointing worlds if she insists on 4s, which is really 'mission impossible'.

I think what is most at stake for the US. is keeping the 3 competitors for next years worlds. All we need is for Emily & Alissa to finsh well below the standings. That will be dreadful.

Assuming she was in Baltimore, Friday was the only real crappy day around here. I assume any other day it would have been fine.

I don't worry much about Emily, she seems like a trooper. But Alyssa has been in this situation before and IIRC her performances have reflected that. I don't think it looks too hot for her

those poor girls that is awful esp with the huge time diffrence to ajust to. I hope that they won't let it bother them too much!

I was wondering why we had not seen any practice photos of Emily and Alissa. Hopefully their late arrival won't throw them off to much.

Alissa had the roughest trip of all when Skate Canada was in St. Johns. And if you recall, she won the gold medal there.

Maybe (hopefully?) Alyssa will be in too much of a daze to overthink and will skate a blinder both times.
