I'm looking forward to seeing Sonya Istomina as well -- I have a soft spot for her but I know it will be hard to make nationals again this year

Hard? I think it will be impossible. There is nine or ten ladies who has a GP event, which means that’s nine or ten spots out of 18 already taken. (I am saying nine or ten because we don’t know if that last TBD spot will go to someone who already has one spot or if it will be another skater who doesn’t have their spot yet). Then there is a pretty good chance that 5 ladies could reach JGPF. I am saying five even though it could potentially be six, but let’s go with the lower estimate. Five is realistic, they managed it last year... But, last season only Kostornaya was able to go to senior nationals because of the age limit (14 years). This season, many of those who are expected to get to JGPF will be over 14, which means they will be able to compete at the senior nationals. So even if out of those five who will get into JGPF only four were old enough, that’s already 14 out of 18 available places for senior nationals gone because the skaters even competed in Russian cups. So those who compete in Russian cups are going to be fighting for the last four spots at the nationals. I think not even all Russian cup medalist will get in. First and second places should though, as long as the skaters have those placement at both their events. There is plenty of junior girls who are older than 14, who are not sure whether they will get JGP spot and therefore will do the senior Russian cups to make sure they get into nationals. Gubanova, Guliakova, Nugumanova.... And senior ladies on reserve team who don’t have a GP spot and therefore will do Russian cups, e.g. Sakhanovich, Pogorilaya, Leonova... Quite honestly, I don’t think Istomina has any chance at all.

Istomina did not compete 2 seasons before 2017/18 and almost did not compete one season before (one Russian Cup Event with poor result), past season she skated well, so may progress. It will be interesting to see how she skates.

I know :(
I really wish they would open up another flight. I know it costs more money, but if skaters like Gubanova or Gulyakova might not make nationals... I think they should.

Although I love Polina so much, I'm rooting for Vasilieva here because since she doesn't have a JGP, this is her only opportunity to make nationals, and she really needs a 1st place. Polina is already qualified.

I'm really looking forward to this. The line up in Jun/Senior Men and Ice Dance is particularly exciting to me. I also wish Polina well.

Live stream links for this event are already up. They should probably be added to the top message as well.

I'm watching. This is junior RD. The first couple just finished skating.

Cool :)

Is it the first even of the competition? Or have I missed the ladies or men?

I like this lady's dress! Tango-ing without been cliche!

This is the first event of the competition. You've missed nothing.

Yay! :) (I did download the schedule, but my Russian is lacking...I could recognise the days of the week and that was pretty much it )

This is a very good stream! Russia knows how to broadcast an ice skating competition.

Polischuk/Shamraev scored 50.03 for their RD. Not much, but for very newly created couple not that bad either. I liked them.

I liked this couple's costume and thought the twizzles were pretty good.

The replay music is something else I must say
