"I heard the scores of Kim and Asada, and especially Asada achieved her new personal best, so it made me very nervous," said Ando, whose comeback from a disastrous 15th-place finish at the Turin Olympics is now complete.

“There were people who criticized my selection to the Olympics and I had a difficult time with that … but I went back to my previous coach [Yuko Monna] to re-do my jumps and asked [new coach Nikolai Morozov] to re-make my programs. And without those two coaches, I wouldn’t have the gold medal today.”

I don't know why but I had a hard time swallowing the fact that Miki Ando won the world title.

However, it was a pretty good comeback after last season's disaster at the Olympics and I think that her move back to her old coach was definately a brilliant move in the right direction.

I just think it's amazing to reflect on Japan's three current queens of skating:

Shizuka, with her long career of wins and setbacks, so quietly elegant and becoming such a beautiful champion in retirement

Miki, the exotic-looking fighter - having set a world record and then been written off before the age of 19 - already strong and glamorous but with years to develop further (and who credited the support of a Japanese skating forum for her comeback!)

and Mighty Mao, the "regal" little hummingbird who seems to toss off triples for the fun of it, and may yet be skating against the boys after conquering the ladies' world

It's a good time for fans.

Awesome that she stuck in there and had faith in herself.

I forgot about that federation thing, glad that was brought up. Wonder if that had anything to do with "stepping it up" this year?
