2014 Nebelhorn Trophy

I'm looking forward to learning what was the reason for all those choreo deductions in the SDs.

I watched only the top 3 ladies. Go, Liza and Alena!!! I love comebacks, and these ladies got it right. I hope we see more great skates from them this season. Gracie's music choice is not a favorite, and though I love the color, the top of her dress is awkward looking. But it's early, she can change a bunch of things up.

I have just rewatched Gracie's LP. And I have to say: What the heck Lori and FC are thinking? Terrible choreoraphy and Gold didn't look happy out there either. She didn't seem to believe in the program herself. Why don't they see that Gracie is the atheltic type, not the pretty princess? Ogm and the music of the first half of her program has absolutely no connection to the choreoaphy at all.

Because it has worked in the past. There are some skaters that it might still work on. They have been around long enough they feel they know what works. And in some ways they are right. . . but things change. There was a time her efforts to do this may have been more rewarded.

They may also not really feel they know how to do much else. They may see themselves as experts in that style, and want to teach that style. Who knows.

Gracie needs music she can play with. Stick a hidden camera in her car. . . figure out which song she sings with the most unabashedly. . . skate to that. For lack of a better way to put it, I want to see her act her age! Be young, have fun. . . more life, less doll.

I was really impressed with W/P's FD. I think it was beautiful; and that it will grow over the season into a really great program. Loved the closed holds and lifts. Their footwork was also quite nice. I'm excited for them!!!! :yay:

I think H/B's FD has improved since LP, but it still has some areas that need working on. Overall though, I am really impressed with the level of difficulty of their program; and I am so excited to see how much it develops over the season. They are off to a nice start.

C/B's FD fit them so well! I think it's the first program of theirs that I have truly really liked. Congrats to them for the score they received - that's awesome!

Z/G - I...have no idea what all was going on in that program, but it was fun and surprising to watch, lol. It's not every day that you see ice dancer mime snorting coke on ice, lol

Just watched and not sure how Z/G got that score for that. Rahkamo& Kokko wannabees - music was terrible. Thought W/P and H/B were skating to last years programs except different music and costumes. Shibs are looking good for US Champs - Door is open for them.

How so? Chock and Bates won the FD with a new PB. If anything, they laid down the gauntlet by breaking the 100 barrier so early in the season.

w/P

C/B I hate her dress and I dont like the program :disapp:, may be later in the season.

Not good for Gracie to lose a competition that should have really won if she skated like she can. Losing to two Russian ladies that she was beating at the end of the 2012-13 season isn't good either. She has the talent to be a champion but not the mindset or nerves.

If Adelina could skate like she did in Sochi after falling apart BIG TIME at GPF, I will make no predictions regarding Gracie for the rest of the season. She may well blow everyone at Skate America.

Hopefully Gacie will blow everyone at the Worlds, Skate America is just one of the GP-events.

A third place at Nebelhorn is a good achievement, it is not good to be perfect already there as the season is very long....

I'm about at that point that i don't think Gracie will ever be a consistent skater. It seems like once or twice a year she skates lights out in the LP but not enough to be in the hunt all season.

I would just tell Gracie 3 words. Lands the jumps!!! If she lands her jumps she will win most every competition she is in but i'm too the point where i don't think Gracie will ever be consistent. She's just a nervous competitor.

I hope she won't blow anyone away as things stand at the moment. Not because I have anything against Gracie Gold, but because I think her current direction as a skater and performer is not the best one for her. Maybe if this princess-style makeover doesn't work for her, she will try something more interesting. I think she has it in her to be a pretty fun skater, given the right opportunity and incentive.

Also, yay Russian ladies and Kavaguti/Smirnov & all the skaters who got PBs!

Both "Russian B ladies" here had so far a more successful career than Gracie.
Liza was more successful as a junior and as a senior won GP events qualified to GPF twice and she is 2 years younger than Gracie.
Alena won GPF bronz and Worlds silver medal.

Gracie has been a vastly better skater then Tukt has been over the same amount of time since early 2013. Tukt has good jumps but lacks speed and ice coverage compared to someone like Gracie. But Gracie needs to stop skating scared like Mirai or Alissa sometimes.

My thoughts (All Positive)

Leonova - she looked fantastic and never this strong. She attacked like she was fearless.

Gracie - Loved the dress, skated way better than I thought she would.

LIza - to me you were never the number one skater in Russia, but through the years I've learned to love you. If wearing that bag will ensure your rise to the top I can live with it. BRAVO!!!!

What a great final group of ice dancers! I liked both C/B and W/P but have to say, W/Ps FD is a work of art. Just loved everything about it, including the fabulous costumes (to be honest, I didn't quite get C/Bs outfits). Weaver and Poje are my Jason Brown of ice dance--the program is all elements and gorgeous transitions--totally jam packed. Complex choreography, difficult holds, and close skating. Yes, there were some technical points left on the table, but mileage should change that. Such a difficult program really does need time to grow--once this happens, they could be unbeatable.

As for H/B--wow! I think all the otherAmerican dance teams really need to look over their shoulders--these guys are making a charge. Only a matter of time before they challenge for the top of the US podium.

So Nelli and Alexander have a movement that is them both doing a line of coke - did anyone else notice that?
