2014 Olympics Ladies Short Program

Short Program Predictions:
Sentimental-
1. Mao Asada
2. Carolina Kostner
3. Kanako Murakami

What will actually happen-
1. Julia Lipnitskaia
2. Yuna Kim
3. Adelina Sotnikova

How can they be called predictions if you then state "what will actually happen." Is the first list what you want to happen? Kostner and Kanako won't be in the top 6. That's my prediction.

She's doing the bare minimum because she knows that if she skates clean the gold is hers.

How is that? They will just hand her gold just because she is the reigning champion? Should the other ladies just withdraw? Come on now. Yuna is awesome and has the best jumps in the competition but there are other ladies doing harder elements with better spins.

please stop trolling and read from the beginning of the thread regarding the historical conversations.. posters like yourself are just ...whatever

How is that trolling..... you wrote in CAPS that the two points you made, one being landing 3 3A in Olympics, and landing 6 different triple will be a push for ladies to skate to a higher content. My response was that landing 3A had no affect on other senior ladies, even after 1) her first 3A land at 2004-5JGPF, and 2) at the Olympics. Technical content has not been changed among ladies. Maybe you should re-read what you post before accusing someone being a troll.

Maybe I'm just odd but I want and kind of expect Kanako to shine and finish ahead of Ashley and Akiko. I would not be surprised to see her in 5th or 6th. The problem is they are all so deserving and only 3 can podium.

Akiko and Kostner are long shots for a medal. I don't understand why all the hype about them. They will be lucky to be in the final group. Beautiful talented skaters but their time has passed.

Anyone know how I can safely view the women's short program on line? I am a cable subscriber but since Charter just bought out our cable company I can not stream through NBC.

People on here usually post online links just as the competition is beginning.

Never said I agreed with it, but the Judges are infatuated with her style and I don't see them awarding Julia with the OGM if they both skate clean. Julia's footwork and basic skating is nowhere near Yuna's (or Mao's for that matter). Now a clean Mao can go long ways and I will definitely rage if she loses to clean Yuna.

I think Julia already established herself as the one to beat in the team event, when she beat Mao and Carolina. I think if she is clean, she will beat those two again. Yuna is the question mark. But Julia, with a clean skate, should be able to defeat Yuna if the latter makes the slightest mistake. This could be one of the main stories of the olympic game, next to hockey, for Russia. The fact that a lot of media are already saying Julia is going to become the face of the games for Russia- I am not sure if anyone can defeat her. She will be highly marked.

Personally think that Carolina has the most artistic and soulful short program but doubt she stands a chance against Yulia, Mao, Julia.

Mao has been landing triple axels since 2004-5 JGPF, but the technical field has not been changed. This means her jump did not affect other senior ladies. I mean, some seniors were doing 2A-2T combination during 2011-12 :disapp:
Don't forget, Mao did land 1 3A in SP and 2 3A in LP at the 2010 Olympics, but she only landed three different triples in her LP (3A, 3Lo, 3F). Sure 3A is praiseworthy but having only 3 triples to win OSM? Not so much.
Yes, it is nothing impressive compared with the incredible and spectacular variety of FOUR triples of Yuna :rolleye:

Yuna has watered down her content. Have you seen her most recent practices? Her spins aren't level 4 and she isn't doing complete run threws. Is she injured or is she playing it safe and losing steam? I hope not!

Are you getting your "facts" from TSL or something? Yuna has been doing several clean full run-throughs in the practices, of both her SP and LP, that includes all her elements.

SP run-through (2/17): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxO8ruaxu2Y
SP run-through (2/13): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wET-JxFg5fE

LP run-through (2/17):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQaJYMpEH4U
LP run-through (2/18): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD-Rw3HqqTQ (here she only skipped her layback spin)

That's just the ones that haven't been blocked by the IOC.

That's why it says "sentimental" for the first list

I'm so excited for this event I can hardly contain myself.
Can't believe the ladies event is almost here.

If Gracie skates a clean program and isn't on the podium, that would be such a huge wuzrobbing. Out of all the top ladies, she is the ONLY one with 1. correct triples, 2. all the triples, 3. huge triples. And her spins, skating skills, and artistry are solid as well.

Sorry, but that's a blatant lie. Did Frank Carroll ask you to say that? Wouldn't suprise me if he did. After all, he thinks Julia is only a little girl, Mao can't do a triple axel and doesn't have better skating skills or interpretation than Gracie. For Yuna, he cannot tell who's who among the three Korean girls because their styles are all the same according to him. See this: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/19/s...-gold-aims-for-excellence-not-perfection.html

Gracie is a lipper. She's been consistently receiving wrong edge mark on her flips since she turned a senior. At least get your facts right before you parade Gracie as the greatest thing ever happened on the earth.

I hope both Gaby and Kaetlin go clean, LOL (nice rime). Unfortunately their lack of competitions threw them in the first groups of skating. Especially Gaby goes second. She could score quite high on TES numbers if she keeps her composure. Actually in TES Gaby should do better than Kaetlin.
Otherwise, I love Julia, and I'd like her to win if she continues to do no mistakes. I love both her programs. I also love Mao, but her inconsistencies may hamper her skating. She should have learned all the jumps and rely less on that 3A. Both Yuna and Caro are great skaters but I think they are past their prime. I hope they won't win only on high PCS marks.
