2014 Worlds - Short Dance

I do like matchmaking. :)

I met my 2nd husband through a set-up by a friend.

I need to sleep now as I actually have 3 kids and need to be up in a few hours with them! Wish I could stay up for men's long but will tape it.

THANKS for the fun, you guys!

You and Mrs P crack me up. But then Sane and Reasonable With A Good Sense Of Humor is NEVER to be sneezed at.

You do not know how much their PCS would be with clean skate, so you do not know how much points they have lost. Let's just leave it at that :)

Well obviously. I was just using numbers as a hypothetical to make my point.

You didn't answer the question:

All the top teams got higher PCS than Sochi, like W/P and especially C/L. Did you think C/L's marks or W/P's weren't deserved? They were higher than in Sochi. What are your reasons for W/P and C/L getting higher PCS than in Sochi?

How about home advantage in Sochi? Everybody discuss that Sotnikova and Plushenko were overmarked but I&K marks in Sochi were bigger than any time before, they suddenly hit all levels... but it was OK and deserved without any question? So why level in twizzles didn't go down in FD in Sochi when Nikita made a mistake and it should be downgraded like in other team's case (Bobrova and Sinitsina's twizzles in FD were downgraded with smaller mistakes...personally I don't know why Sinitsina was punished for twizzles)?

There was one mistake on his part- he was interrupted like savchenko was at euros. I would say the performance pcs took a little hit because It was a brief error that was isolated.

Obviously whether or not a mistake is big enough to disrupt a program is subjective. To me, it was a big mistake. It disrupted the flow of the skate and totally took me out of the performance. Their performance/execution mark, and probably their interpretation mark as well should have been lower.

So happy for Alisa and Alper!! After last year's shock and the olympic disappointment, this will keep them motivated.

Sad for Bobrova/Soloviev and Russia. Hope their teams will manage to get 5 spots for next year.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah no Dani/Greg for FD?!?!?!?!?!!?!??!?! Noooooooooooooooooo

Pcs is not about Tes. It just isn't! There is no rule yet about reductions in pcs for mistakes in Tes!

That I will agree with. TES and PCS should according to the rules be judged independently. We saw the most bark about this with Chan when falling should have zero weight on PCS (but we know in real life for fans and judges that the 2 inter mingle often when they should not as written which I don't necessarily agree with but that's COP).

I just hope P/B skate the FD like they did in Sochi and win the championship here. They would sooooo deserve it.

3 Olympics in a row the French team deserved 3rd place and instead got 4th or lower. :sarcasm:

Judges judge the whole program (all elements), not only one element.

Exactly, but fourth element was missing and fifth element was touched but lost concentration.
Last 15-20 seconds of program were not good, loosing connection to dance/music, so if judges would judge a program as a whole package they would come to 7-8 points in every components except Skating Skills where it could be in 8's. Did you notice that after twizzles Lena almost stumbled and the couple had problems to find their hands to enter a lift? Such things are not affecting a whole program?

So what is your issue with I/K's mark then?

After the mistake was over I was right back into the performance! So I don't know what a right kind of deduction would be?

Their lift was affected by the mistake? Why, because it came after twizzles? So in that case, if you re-arranged I/K's SD to put the twizzles first and all other elements second, and they performed the elements to the same quality as tonight (botching twizzles, perfect everything else), they should be in 20th place.

Their GOE and level on that lift was unaffected by the twizzles. Two totally separate elements. They are judged separately. Why would you give I/K's lift negative score just because they botched the twizzles?

So should I/K's lift get negative GOE and level 1 because it came after the botched twizzles?

Lift was clean, I would never give minus GOE for this. But judges should judge entering, which was slow, and it took sooooo long until Lena got into position and the speed in turns Nikita had was slower than usually...that is why a lift was effected. It was definitely not executed on +3 and +2, OK it could be 0 or maybe +1, by why higher, when it was more hardly and more slowly done than ever before??? It was just another example od saving the couple with higher element score.

Technical Panel:
Hurth (France)
Zukiwsky (Canada)
Ponomarenko (Russia) - husband of Marina Klimova, who is involved in the coaching of Igor Shpilband's teams. Igor is also one of the coaches of Klimova/Ponomarenko's son who is a novice or junior ice dancer competing in the US. No conflicts of interest there obviously...

It's only technical panel. Besides, there are also French and Canadian judges, so :)

The Mighty Boosh is the best (in my opinion) comedy/musical troupe/tv-series to come out of England since forever. No, in fact it can't be compared to other shows as they are something else altogether. The ony other that comes close is Green Wing.

As for turning your back:

This is the image I got in my head of you turning your back on I/K

What on earth did I just watch? That was so crazy, I'm intrigued.

So glad for Kaitlyn and Andrew. Love their music and costumes (beautiful shade of blue), and the entire SD was fabulous.

Thanks for posting this info. I almost forgot.

So despite having a direct conflict of interest to Igor Shpilband, the assistant technical specialist calls out levels for all teams, including Chock/Bates, whose was the highest TES of the night. Interesting. But no, this cannot be a reason why C/B got their high TES.
