2015-16 Grand Prix assignments

Am I the only one who wonders if Karen and Nathan are twins? Same age, same last name, they look similar, and she's mentioned on her Instagram that she has a brother...this confounds me. I'm pretty sure they're not, but it seems like to coincidency a coincidence not to be true...maybe just cousins?

EDIT: Wiki'd both of them. It didn't say anything about them being related (but they have different birthdays, so they definitely aren't twins).

here's a pic of Karen with her younger brother and Lambiel: https://instagram.com/p/46eY5QID_y/?taken-by=karebearsk8

Might be worth remembering Chen is the 260th most common name in the USA

http://names.mongabay.com/data/1000.html

Which means it is slightly less common than McCoy and Welch and slightly more common than Schultz and Walters.

But it would be cute if they were related. I rather like the idea of two rival cousin families driving their little prodigies to succeed.

Nathan's family is from Beijing, Karen's is from Taipei, most likely no, it's a very common surname and it is also my surname. Once in high school, I had 3 other people with the same surname in my class and it's gone up exponentially in university. It's very common.

So it sounds as though Adelina will not be competing on the GP via the Rostelecom Cup host pick this year and instead looks to gain a spot for the international team thru Russian Nationals alone. I'm sure she'll still have to do some Russian Cup events right? Won't she need to have them to even qualify for RN's. Not surprising I'm sure but interesting non the less.

Thanks to Dobrinfan for posting it in her fan thread via a fellow poster who tweeted this after one of Adelina's Pressers in Japan

Adelina: my plan this season is to compete at RN and maybe EC and WC.

Is she just saying this because she hasn't been given the host pick yet? Why is everything in the media about her so uncertain. It's like a giant guessing game or chase the rabbit or something.

No she doesn't have to do a Russian Cup event to go to nationals, the Fed can just invite her.

And from the Russian press her quote was:
Аделина: My plan is to have a good competition at Russian Nationals and maybe at European and World championships.

And she was speaking English so not much translation error in that. She doesn't say no to Rostelecom.

That's why I wondered if she addressed it this way being as how the host pick is not yet made public. She can't very well come out and say she plans to compete somewhere she hasn't been invited. Her coaches did announce her plans to include Russian Cup events though IIRC.

Well Kogan said that Plushenko and Sotnikova can have RC if they want but a) must show up at the test skates and show preparedness to compete and b) have open availability. Test skates haven't happened yet so......no invitation as of now.

Daniel Samohin is no longer listed for Cup of China, so it seems he intends to stay junior for another season.

I mentioned in Plushenko's thread that he has a show scheduled in Armenia at the same time of CoR. That + all the other shows he has lined up would indicate to me that he has no intention to skate there. I guess the open men's host pick spot will probably go to Artur.

Sorry if this has been discussed, but has the US decided who the third lady at Skate America is going to be? If not, how long do they have to announce? I'm really hoping it's Mirai..

Why did Gracie get assigned Skate America and not Ashley? I thought that National Champ traditionally got to debut at Skate America.

Isn't this why Rudy Galindo got upset after his national win? He got snubbed for the Skate America spot?

*crosses fingers, toes, and basically everything* pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease

As I understood it at the time, Ashley chose to go to other GPs, so Gracie was next in line for SkAm.

Oh, maybe that's it! So Kiira withdrew? Who replaced her? Is she finally retiring or injured again?

Instead of trying (and failing) to download the PDF's, you can click on each event in the calendar, then click through to the entries in each discipline. A bit of a nuisance, but at least the lists seem to be the updated ones... and I think you can tell which ones have changes from the dates at the bottom of the list...
