I think Julia might actually join my favorite Russian ladies list, as she's stopped boring me and has better jumps... Lena and Zhenia look nice as well.

Sotnikova said she has a back problem, which is why she missed out the more challenging spin positions & why the jumps aren't her best, but she wanted to still skate & show something.

I'm a little concerned that she was off for a full year not doing hard training and before the season even starts she's having a back problem. Back problems tend to be lingering issues and she can not afford to give up points by not doing as challenging spins as her Russian competitors (and obviously falls are problematic).


Overall I liked the program but the end when the music got faster, she seemed to get slower.

And also it could be to her detriment to be switching programs around, often times (look at a lot of our comments about what we are seeing today) the first time a skater skates a program its not the best they skate it, it's usually after the second or third competition that the skater looks really comfortable in the program and the program looks polished.
