As someone who was there - you can't necessarily tell from the video, but she was skating with much more speed than I remember her having when I saw her at nationals. And specifically, you can tell she has finally caught up to her body and the long lines were a contrast to (and breathtaking compared to) every other lady that night. She stated with an ease, and there are so many great moments, my favorite of all the sharp final pose.

Side note, I thought so in the rink, but I think entering the flip with consecutive three turns may be the trick to doing right edge. It looked better than Gracies flip edge, which although I got a better of angle of from my vantage looked much more lipped.

I just think Polina leveraged a piece that suited her style and loved that it legitimately looks like a real ballerina - but not boring at all either. It was astonishingly elegant. And btw, I'm not even a Polina Uber or anything. I root for all the US ladies and wasn't expecting to be blown away by her, especially when I was expecting great things from Gracie karen and Mariah tonight
 
Did Gracie not skate clean? I can't see a clean Polina beating Gracie. And also why on earth is she doing the 3flip in the SP? She always gets edge calls and loses points plus falls a lot on that jump and probably gets more points with the 3loop and usually lands it. She could take herself out of contention in the SP if she struggles with that jump in the SP.

Gracie's 3Lz-3T was shakey and she had a hand down (nearly hit the barrier). Polina's 3F edge is actually in my opinion now in better shape than Gracie's. I had a better vantage point for Gracie's to see it be a lip, whereas Polina's actually looked much less suspect (she no longer has that rocking edge before takeoff). Both of them were working on it diligently in the warmup. They're both using a similar entrance where they do consecutive threeturns before it to really ensure they're on an inside edge -- it's just that Polina's seems to be working better.

Frankly Polina's program did seem slightly more thought through as well. Gracie's doesn't quite seem as cohesive, but I think part of it may be that in this competition they are facing the judges (who are on the opposite side of all of the bleachers) so you can't see their facial expressions and are watching everything from behind...
 
Nearly hit the barrier again? She's making a habit of that lately. Maybe she needs to slow down a bit.

EDIT: Upon first viewing, the program is very promising but still looks pretty new to Gracie. Hope she can add some more fire to it as the season goes on. Not sure I'm a huge fan of this music... the crowd got into it during the step sequence but the music didn't give them much to go on. I feel like there are other tango pieces she could have used that might have been better, but I'm looking forward to seeing the program develop!

I agree on the speed part, I'm not sure why she seems slower in the video. I also really hope her costume for the short is simple so it doesn't distract from her line (simple meaning not a lot of frills, I'm all for some tasteful bling) if she's not using the one she wore last night for the season.

Do you mean to say...edge calls are an issue for other skaters?

Well, top 2 over 70-that's insane. This speaks volumes for what they've done over the off season. Both have better programs, both went clean, and both scored over 70? Watch out, Ashley. These girls ain't messing around.

Did Ashley say these girls are messing around ? Or you think Ashley is messing around ? If Ashley was competing there, she would beat those two and come first, just like she did at Nationals.Gracie is my second favourite skater and I like Polina so much, but come on, Polina's overall points that she got last year at Glacier Falls was 201 and we know how she did internationally last year.And Gracie's PB for a clean short program was about 68-71.Moreover, aside from the toeloop on the combo, her lutz didn't seem good and flip was taken off from outside edge.She would earn something like 63 with that program on international ice.

By the way, I love Gracie's new programme.Transitions and footworks look great.And that ending.:love:She has put an illusion spin into layback.I hope she gets her strong jumps back soon.

Just making a joke. Polina said in an interview last season that edge calls/skating skills were "an issue for other skaters" when she kept getting called on her lip. We were all wondering if she was just bluffing for the cameras while she fixed it, or if she really was delusional. The former, it seems.

To me it looks the entire program is not yet in his body - everything, including the jumps, seems slow and cautious. I give him props for picking himself up after each one of those jumps and continuing with the program. It's hard for me to judge the quad except that he maybe didn't have enough speed going into it. What are the issues you see - not enough height? << ?
 
Thanks to LeCygne and StitchMonkey for posting the videos of Gracie and Polina. That was a beautiful skate from Polina. :):cheer: I'm glad she is continuing to develop her own aesthetic.

Gracie doesn't appear to be as far along with her SP as Polina. I don't think that is a concern this early in the season. The most encouraging thing about Gracie's performance is that she didn't fall apart after the hand down on the 3T. In the past, she has tended to lose focus and unravel after a mistake. That didn't happen this time. I think Gracie is about where she should be at the time of the year.
 
Jason's quad toe actually is a triple toe.But still, good for him.Programme is totally not my type.
I loved Courtney's programme.Music is suited her skating well.I couldn't see any reason to put turns between flip and toeloop, flip looked strong to me.And those spread eagles, especially the inside edge one, amazed me.:drama:

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. He was like a puppy learning his new feet, but like a puppy grows into his feet, so too I think Jason will grow into the program. But yeah, he looked like he was still learning it/thinking about the program a lot. He also looks a bit tire near the end end. Also they need to find damn good tailor if they are going with that costume. it was half untucked on one side by the end. really it should not even be a full shirt under the vest IMHO, no need for extra cloth.

I do think the program itself is very promising and fun but he needs to nail it (though I am sure he knows that already). I look forward to seeing version 2 soon, because right now it is still under construction. Still happy see the preview.
