2015 Japan Open

I think Chan PCS was judged quite right

I just don't understand how Javier could get 90  It looks like he doesn't made any improvement in his skating from last year. Still similiar style, similar moves, and the same level in his skating

Chan's basics are stunning. He should've really gotten higher PCS than Javi (who's improved, but is still not on Chan's level). Sigh.

Exactly - I don't see any improvement in his skating, and his style is the same as we've seen many times in past. He seems like a great guy, but his programs are a bit 'one-trick pony' for my liking.

What do you mean? That he doesn't stop, smil and blow a kiss or wiggle his hips? Cause it's just chock full of skating.

I mean it's full of transitions, and undeniably incredible basic skating, but none of it adds up to a whole that makes the program. And then you have the PJ Kwongs of the world saying it made them cry because Chan is an alien from another dimension of intense expression/angst, or some other platitude. He does deserve better PCS than Javier though.

considering chan was competing in quebec just a week ago, traveled to japan etc... with the jet lag, it's actually not that bad... still not over the low pcs though

I think the problems is when skaters suddenly get a nice rise in pcs, many begin to skate to the same style, and it kinda is dissapointing, because javier is quite expressive when he want to be, so no reason to bind himself to this style...

Chan should apologise to Mao, for trying to skate to Chopin like this in front of her. This program is quite empty, in terms of actual choreographic moments.

Why should he, it is a gorgeously realised program, balanced and well constructed and musically appropriate rather than second half heavy banking everything on one epic step sequence to finish things off on a high. In terms of complexity and difficulty, I find this version isr more intricate and complex. I'd probably make a few tweaks to reflect the music even more some where, but in terms of virtuosity level, this is a level 10 program and effort. His skating skills is second to none and choreography is more packed of intricacy and skating movement than Shoma's program.

Very impressive skate by Shoma! His jumps have such nice, soft landings and flow. My only real complaint is that I found his top very distracting, as it kept flapping around. It's not very good for his line.

Shoma looked kind of frightened by his own score

Such a great skate though, well done!!
