Mariah was my favorite senior lady at U.S. Nationals last year and I have high hopes for this season, but this is not a great start. Loved her dress and she is generally expressive. She seemed kind of slow and no height on her jumps plus the 2 falls.

I think it's probably time to admit to myself that while I love Mariah and think her skating is beautiful and has so many wonderful qualities, she is not a particularly strong jumper...

She can jump well but unfortunately, she has never been particularly consistent with her jumps. This has been true since her novice days. Hopefully she can have a breakthrough in that regard soon!

Yes this is what I mean- I have watched her since she first started Juniors and I do not recall her every having a clean-ish LP other than Nationals last year... she cannot seem to land all her jumps all at once, even though she has the jumps and executes them well most of the time.

I do also pray for her to have a breakthrough, she is one of my favorite ladies to watch.

Yes I am sure she had high hopes for both this and the US International FS Classic to 'set her up' for Skate America and it has unfortunately really not gone as she hoped. Fortunately these competitions are not really so important in the scheme of things (though it would have been nice/beneficial if she had done very well) and she can definitely turn it around at Skate America.

Actually, I wonder if the interruption didn't help her avoid even more falls at the beginning by initially distracting her.

She is such a beautiful skater. Love her music, love her new dress. Looks like they simplified her choreography (I'm half asleep).

It's heartbreaking to see her cry like that.

Yes at times I genuinely felt she looked like a banana...
