2016-17 Ills and Injuries

There is just no rushing this type of injury. If not taken slowly it could mean the end of a career. It would be best for them to take off this season and come back fit and strong for Korea.

I saw her twitter message and often she seemed on the verge of tears. I feel for these two because they seem to be such genuinely kind people. So regardless of what my head may be saying I wish them only the best. I really enjoyed them in Boston.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I just love Penny & Nick's programs, but it seems that every time they manage to recover from a previous illness/injury, bad luck strikes again :(

Best wishes to Penny, I hope she recovers quickly and safely! *prayer circle*

I hope that this is the most appropriate thread to post about this but was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about Alexa Scimeca being injured or ill? I believe she is currently in hospital and has been fighting an injury or illness for some time. I hope it's something she recovers from very quickly and that she and her new husband are back on the ice before long...

Just heard today in another thread that Sota Yamamoto of Team Japan fractured his right ankle for the second time. Haven't heard any other details. Such a shame. He was supposed to be moving up to Seniors this year. Hoping for the best for a good recovery!

There is no specific information about her, unfortunately. But whatever it is, I hope she recover fully soon :)

Not diminishing Alexa's illness, and wishing her only the best :ghug:.
But will note that Chris and she have been on the ice during her months of illness (including for a show performance, for example). Not now obviously, if she is in the hospital :(, but it is not clear to me whether they have been off the ice for only a matter of days.
Again, I do not mean to sound unsupportive of Alexa. It's a sign of her deep inner strength that she has been skating during her illness.

Their Coach mentioned their struggles on Instagram

After so many months of illness, it's nice to see the Knierims getting back to strength!!!

So it seems it has affected their training... but not on a broken limb level.
There are a lot of things that could cause a person to feel like crap on and off for months on end. Alot of issues could result in a sometimes training situation on the good days.

And I did not take you as unsupportive...just in search of the truth as always.

Yes, last night, I had posted that same Instagram from Dalilah in the Alexa/Chris fan thread.
And in my post over there, I did say that I had been worrying about Alexa (b/c of a number of posts from her and others).
And I did make note of Alexa's months of illness both in my post over there and in my post above in this thread.

So ... I hope it was clear that I was reacting specifically to lyverbird's good wishes :) for Alexa and Chris to be back on the ice soon.
Because we have so little information, I just didn't want anyone to assume that Alexa has been completely off the ice during the period of her illness.
When I said above that they have been on the ice during her illness, I wish I had explicitly spelled out "at least to some extent." That is what I meant. (Hindsight is 20/20 ;).)
Was not saying that their training has not been affected, and was not saying that Alexa's presence on the ice (to whatever extent) means that everything must be fine and dandy -- or even anywhere close to fine and dandy.

To me, it is a silver lining that Alexa has managed to skate -- to some extent -- in the last few months, even though something significant has been going on with her health during that time. And it is a testament to her grit.
I continue to be worried about Alexa, and will repeat that I am sending her my best.

... And I did not take you as unsupportive...just in search of the truth as always.

Thx, Stitch :).

So sorry to hear Alexa has been ill. Selfishly, I would feel better if I knew what was wrong. :sad4: Certainly do respect her privacy though and wish her a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the replies. Naturally I have no wish to intrude on a private matter if there is an illness they wish to keep to themselves but as Arriba627 says, there is a selfish element of wanting to know. And if she has managed some skating during this illness, then hopefully that's a good sign. She should be on top of the world with her recent marriage and getting ready for the new season and it's sad to think that's not the case. Feel better soon Alexa!

I am sad to hear about Alexa may be ill or injured but glad she has Knerim by her side. Wishing them well.

Have their been any specifics on her illness? It sounds like she had Mono.

That was my impression too, if you mean Mononucleosis. If that is the case probably she is keeping a low profile about it because it is relatively unknown ailment and to whom not familiar with the condition it may sound weird. But does it require a hospitalization, especially at a later stage after a few months? That doesn't seem to fit the case though.
In any case I wish her the best and may she be back to full health to have a good season.

I'm sorry, Yes I meant Mononucleosis. It's slang here in California. I thought everyone called it that. ;)

No prob! Perhaps it is known that way in the English speaking world, I had come to discover "Mono" because my partner, usually with never ending energy, had it several years ago and was totally knocked down for over a month. So I only knew it as "mononuculeosi" in Italian and I had to look up to see what it's called in English (as it turned out, it was just a simple addition of "s" at the end. Anyway, after experiencing it first hand, my full sympathy is with Alexa, well of course if that's what she has.

Generally it doesn't require hospitalization, but everyone is different.

Maybe best not to speculate?
Edit: But understanding why there might be speculation and certainly not being pissy about it!
