Satoko wasn't that consistent at the same age. That's why she didn't place as high as Marin now. Marin's PCS should be as high as Satoko now. Satoko is all about hard work, but she's not as gifted technically and physically. That's the luck of the draw, so nothing she can do but work harder on the things she can control.

I don't get the purpose of this Marin vs Satoko debate... so far it's just pointing out how Marin is so much better than Satoko? Satoko too qualified for a JGPF and finished 4th at Jr Worlds twice, behind the likes of Yulia Lipnitskaya, Adelina Sotnikova, Elena Radionova and Evgenia Medvedeva. Marin won in the absence of Polina Tsurskaya and Alisa Fedichkina so I would like to see Marin compete with Tsurskaya and Zagitova this year. Satoko won Jr Nationals twice. By the time she was 16 she was a senior World silver medalist. You can praise Marin without having to bring down Satoko's achievements.

I think comparing age-wise achievements for competitors w/ different ages is not an effective way to prove something. As the sport progresses, it's only natural for junior skaters to learn more, faster. If you really want to compare skaters, it's best stick within the same age group. That being said, just because a young skater has a lot of achievements does not guarantee him/her a successful future career. On the other hand, some skaters have hit their peak performances late in their career.
I don't feel the need to compare them. I'm grateful for both Marin and Satoko, because they both bring a lot to the Japanese ladies field.

I don't know why some fans of other skaters like to belittle Satoko's achievement, or other skaters for that matter that seem to pose serious threats to the successes of their biases. I truly enjoy Satoko's skating, and I have to disagree that she is robotic. The very first single skater that caught my attention is Mao Asada during 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and then Satoko really captivated me since I watched her performance in WTT 2015 (miss Saigon was her program if i am not mistaken) an amateur fans who simply enjoy her performance. Her skating is so fluid and balletic, and she is getting better and better in projecting emotions in her skating. Satoko, and other skaters have to face the challenges competing in front of all the crowds, often in foreign arenas, shouldering the expectations to bring the best results possible. I don't think it's necessary to blatantly ignore and ridicule her achievement.
Sorry if this post is offensive to some. I am not intentionally targeting specific posts. This is just my two cents and personal opinion as a lay person (for lack of a better term) in figure skating after reading many discouraging comments about Satoko. Peace all.

Marin has some really gorgeous jumps. She rotates so quickly and cleanly!
Alina's backloaded content is a total turn-off but she's playing the game. Granted if the tech callers are paying attention she doesn't always get around on her jumps, specifically in the FS. She got away with a couple of URs at senior nationals this year...
Marin is a more complete skater IMO but Alina's got way more momentum. It should be interesting to see what happens, especially if Marin does that 3Lz-3L...

Different strokes for different folks. I prefer Zagitova's jumps. And with a big margin over Honda's. The latter has the mule kick which is better than Kanako's but still not visually pleasing. In fact the only junior who has more impressive jumps than Alina is Polina T. They will be both competing. Marin has never won over Polina. Kind of strange that Japanese TV bolied everything down to Marin vs. Alina.

Because Japanese TV is... kinda dumb. They love their 1 vs. 1 rivalries, no matter how much more pressure they put on skaters for that. They do it constantly, AFAIK.

Marin is a great young skater same as Nastya Gubanova who is simply gorgeous. But to win over Zagitova it's just not enough when Alina is clean. I don't understand Japanese but I guess that people on TV compared the layouts and talked about Zagitova's backloading and how much TES advantage it brings. I wonder if they came with a strategy to win.
I'm not a fan of Alina's landings, bent at the waist and with little flow out of the jump. From this point of view, I much prefer Marin, even though her technique is not great.
As for the Japanese TV promo, my guess is that they wanted to pit the reigning Junior World Champion against the junior that won almost everything so far this season with record scores. Polina should definitely be a part of this conversation, though.

They obviously are doing it the right way, if there are quite packed stadiums even for highschool fs events. They know how to sell the product.

There are reports on instagram and twitter that Rika Kihira did a 3A+3T+2T at a local competition in Osaka. :shocked:
