Wow, talking about bad timing. good for Rika though. The way they score her and how inconsistent she's becoming, she should make the most of whatever chance they hand to her.

Nah to last question, I would say not enough or not proper training on and off ice but obviously just guessing.

Between her, Hanyu, and a pairs skater, that's three Japanese skaters that have pulled out of a major competition as a result of the flu in less than two months.

They need to get their flu shots next season!

Mirai Nagasu is working on her triple axel at age 23. And she's Japanese by genetics.

Mao and her 3A is another example. And its not like she is 14 years old either.

Rika has always some spark in her skating that made her skating interesting, no matter the posture and overall talent. Plus of course very cool programs and costumes.
Lately, I feel like she's lost that spark.

She had an injury on her left uncle after Nationals, and couldn't train for some time. It looks like it still hurts.

Akiko wrote in her recent newspaper column that female skaters' bodies keep changing every 2-3 years even after puberty, and they have to keep adjusting their jumping techniques.

But Mirai's best placement and arguably best performance was 2010 Vancouver. She is working on 3A, not delivering it yet at a competition.
And I didn't say it applies to every single skater. Ashely Wagner was a better jumper after she reached 20, same as Akiko, but they are more of an exception.

But Mirai's best placement and arguably best performance was 2010 Vancouver. She is working on 3A, not delivering it yet at a competition.

That's her loss. Tom Z has been trying to get her to put it in since last season.

With the 3A, she might well be going into Worlds as the reigning US National and 4CC Champion. Wouldn't that have changed the narrative!

Earlier today, JSF official Yoshiko Kobayashi has revealed Satoko Miyahara's current state. Kobayashi checked on Miyahara and coach Hamada and confirmed that her recovery is going smoothly. Up until now she refrained from putting pressure on the left hip and only practiced jumps like the loop. The toeloop is the most difficult to do. From now on she will start introducing the rest of the jumps little by little, following the instructions of the doctor.

It is unclear whether Miyahara can return to a perfect condition by the end of March but she will compete at the World Championships. Miyahara mentioned that she won’t compete for herself, but for the team.

Fingers crossed that Satoko's recovery keeps going smoothly! I've liked her since her first senior season. I'm looking forward to watching her skate at Worlds, no matter her placement. I just hope she doesn't overtrain and stays healthy.

I think it's better to put those 2A-3Ts back in the LP. She can still get really good TES with last year layout while keeping 3 spots for JSF. With the injury, I'm thinking she's fighting for bronze now.
