2016-17 State of Russian Ladies skating

Samkrut, sometimes I feel like you are just looking for ways to start an argument 😉. Alas, complaints about judging are what keeps this forum alive so who am I to complain.

Never was my intention - sorry if it looked that way. On the opposite, sarcasm is often the only tool not to start a brawl yet another time when some people look with a magnifying glass at the Russian girls' skating dismissig whatever issues other skaters have.

Imho Polina was fine.
She is just back from injury, she is handling the growth. It is pretty early in the season too - and she is doing way better than many other skaters.

Honestly, IMO, growth/injury probably didn't play a huge role in her mistakes. But, well, healthy skaters with awesome technique still make mistakes. That's what it looked like to me - just a lack of focus during a few jumping passes. It was a bad LP for most of the girls that day. Bad energy in the building?

Her SP was better, but I think the LP has more potential overall, if only because it's a more unique program.

At the interview she said that the mistakes were caused by late preparation to the season (after injury), and because of that she felt nervous about LP and the unconfidence showed the most when she was jumping.

It appeared to me like that. LP has so many elements that take time to just remember, not to mention in practice.

She got injured in March. In one interview is says that she lost 3.5 months when she couldn't skate because of her injury. That means she started preparing for this event in the middle of July, while she was adjusting to the fact that she also grew taller... We are in the middle of September. I think the was she skated is unexpectedly well, considering that she was learning and getting used to new programs, adjusting her jump technique to being tall/having her centre of gravity somewhere else than she had it last season, and having only two months to do all that. The FS didn't have enough mileage. So yes, all those had definitely role in her popping jumps in the FS.

Polina said in the interview that she simply hasn't skated FS enough times so that she would be 100% confident with it.
Though, I respect her more when she said "Well, but I had to do it perfectly, I could, but didn't".
I expect her to be near to perfection at her next event. She is a fighter

PS Waiting to see amazon queen in Tallinn in a couple of weeks!

I thought Polina was impressive compared to the other two Russian girls, even if she wasn't perfect. But I also thought she should have won the FS since Nugumanova wasn't quite rotating quite a few of her jumps, but got only 1<. IMO, Nugu's score was higher than it should have been to ensure she made the podium. THAT wasn't quite fair.

He is very happy with Liza's progress and says that she will reintroduce 3A this season.

He also said that Caro was very happy with him and Caro's mother said to him "Mille gracie"- many thanks.

IMO, Liza shouldn't be doing the 3A until she gets her skating to where it was when she introduced it in 2015. She hasn't been doing it for years and years and it isn't a permanent part of her repertoire, and we've seen how disruptive it has been to her competitive performances (or it's been the fault of something other than the 3A. Idk).

Then again, the 3A might be Liza's best ticket out of Russia after the Grand Prix, so what does she have to lose? Still, I wish some of the time spent on the 3A would be spent on working on straightening out her bent leg during her sit spins. :p

Translation of a recent Liza interview wherein she discusses many things, like her mindset going into this season, and why she think she struggled last:
