Just say a few words about Liza: I think she skated much much better than I expected at SC, and the high quality of her jumps is still there, with no URs & edge calls which are very common to other girls, so that I am still quite optimistic about her future. Her landing that gorgeous 3Loop in the FS is really a pleasant surprise for me! I believe that her team will work on her PCS step by step to close the gap. Hope she can make the podium in China. It seems that Liza, Anna and Maria will compete for 2 spots on the Worlds team, and I certainly wish Liza can win one of them.

As expected, Tuk's PCS took a nose dive even with a relatively clean LP. Without the 3A, she's no longer competitive. A lot of work for her team to deal with in the near future, including improving the programs, add transitions, add 3A, add harder 3x3. Still time to make these changes for the Olympics season.

What about Elena?

I think the omission was because we've not seen Elena since the test skates - personally I'd not count her out. We all know how gritty Elena is. I'm curious to see her, and especially her FP, as we never got to see that at the test skates.

Note: Obviously as a die-hard Liza fan, I want her to nab one of those Euros/Worlds spots; but I think the most important thing for her this season is to work on her consistency and bring back her self confidence. I think she is gradually on her way there - will it be enough for this season? Who can tell - but I'll be cheering for her all the way of course.

Yes? She just competed in the Challenger Series at Nepela a few weeks ago, still has two GP assignments coming up soon.

To be fair, she was so close to achieve her goal here in Canada, I'm sure with the 3T-3T at the end of her long program she would have won the bronze medal, Mishin was so pissed in the KnC because of that.

Of course this was particular situation where the judges were extremely strict and likely this won't happen in China, so she will need something more, the 3A will define this season once again. Even in China, she can beat Ashley Wagner, Elena Radionova and Kaetlyn Osmond with the 3A.

Of course, she will compete at the Trophée de France and at the NHK, but at the senior B competitions and russian test skates she was really rough and i haven't seen her yet at the Russian Cup.

The 3A is not going to add to her PCS; if anything, the distraction of the more difficult jump will make it even harder for her to sell her programs.

By far her biggest issue is programs that are not cleverly constructed, to paraphrase Chris Howarth. (E.g., jump-jump linked by fancy hand gestures rather than meaningful transitions)

In my opinion, the music for both her programs do nothing to uplift her, and the long program is particularly plodding and stagnant.

Look, the only thing that Tuk did wrong was not call Emanuel Sandhu and demand a refund or that he re-choreograph the entire middle section of her program. Her program has zero transitions and basic step sequences that lead to her spectacular jumping passes. I almost never say this, however. IMO, This is much more about the program than the skater.

I cannot say for sure, of course, but Liza noted in one of her interviews her surprise at how little Mishin actually changed. Basically, she said, he made a few jump entries easier for her, and she hoped that that wouldn't affect the program negatively.

We need to get to the bottom of this. Eman is a spectacular dancer and unlike some choreographers, he was also a very good singles skater. He knows what belongs in a program in order to make it successful. I wonder what he would say about the program the way it is at this point. I think once a skater removes more than 20% of the original choreography, the team should remove Eman's name from the program. I wouldn't want my name attached to a program that no longer represents my work.

Yeah, I like Tuktamysheva (or should I say: Tutankhamysheva ), but her Cleopatra simple does not cut it for me this season. Choreography could be better. What is missing I don't know - I leave it to FS professionals, but it does not have a full self-contained choreography piece for me. I still hope Liza will grab that 3rd spot of Team Russia this season. :yes:

IMO, Liza's biggest issue is speed. I know it's hard to tell on a screen, and I've never seen her live, but based on what I can tell, she looks painfully slow out there. Like, the slowest lady at SC except for Joshi Helgesson. I'm not sure if it's stamina related or not. She's never been extremely fast, but in 2015 she could get to a decent speed with crossovers.

At this point, I don't care about her transitions. She needs some better, more dynamic music that she can sell, and some fun choreography (preferably some that requires her to extend her arms) that also tells a story and gets the audience interested, let her practice using that Liza sass a little more and changing expressions as the emotion of the music requires. Do Carmen! Liza would make a great Carmen, and it doesn't require a ton of subtlety. She can use all the crossovers she wants in order to gain some speed out there and cover more ice. Once she can handle that, add in transitions slowly.

Ashley Wagner the heck out of her programs. That first, 3A later. I'll be an unhappy fan to see Liza's 3A winning competitions over more complete skaters.
