2016-2017 State of Canadian Figure Skating

i will agree on the MTK sweater... that's a no no... but the grey pants were yummy :) i have something for geeky trousers ;)

Skaterboy : if you are able to provide clothing from your closet for Patrick you must have a perfect body... we want to see pictures.

And I don't care for bling.... patrick doesn't need it... he can wear a very simplistic costume as far as I am concerned, just not the Chopin twice in a row...
I really don't think it's a question of money considering the cars Patrick drives.

Sarah : if you think Patrick stole suspenders from Javi, would that explain was Javi's are actually just taped on? HAHA at least Patrick wears real ones, you know the kind we can play with while ermm.. okay i let my imagination go and my fingers stop the typing ;)

Definitely not a perfect body though I wish. I was speaking metaphorically lol. I just think something not necessarily blingy but with a bit more visual impact would be helpful. Shads of grey could reflect the different chapters and stages of life and the moments of intensity eventually leading to eternal bliss we hope. Otherwise he could go to costco and pick up a charcoal grey pair of pants and a merino wool super light shirt/sweater in say a lighter grey or shades of blue but please no brown and call it a day I guess.

ooh I just thought of another idea he could wear shades of grey with a top and pants very minimalistic and add black duct tape stripes horizontally representing the journey and the phases of life. Visually it would create impact and move the eyes to wards his face. I am pretty sure Prada has done something like this (albeit not with duct tape but grosgrain ribbon I believe in black). Or black pants and a white top with the black lines. Very visual. Or in his case he could maybe get Kit and Ace to provide him pants and a top and they could recreate it with the grosgrain ribbon "trim". CAshmere blend very light would be comfortable too. And Kit and Ace have very light trim pants with little design flourishes that are simple but visually stunning. I have nothing to do with that company but that would be comfortable, stylishly and evoke a mood with the slight adjustments or embellishments.

goodness me... there's no way GPF is going to be liquored for me.... at least not today nor tomorrow... i have work both days around 4pm... so can you imagine?
frisky in the morning??? why not? Cold Canadian winters.
Good grief, have you been drinking already? It's too early in the morning to be this frisky! Granted, I'm sure our livers appreciated the two week gap between GP events, so we've got some catching up to do. Let's call it "damage control for our (liver's) damage control."

Maybe Patrick should hook up with Vera Wang. Or would Evan Lysacek not allow it?

well... i cannot comment... i don't speak fashion... less is more for me... perhaps patrick should just wear the pants and suspenders... why bother with a shirt?

Good luck to Canadian sweetheart Kaetlyn Osmond at GPF tomorrow the first Canadian lady to qualify to the Grand Prix Final since Joannie Rochette!

Just dropping a line for those who were exasperated by CBC's interrupted livestream coverage of the GPF pairs and men's short programs.

Turns out that whoever was posting up the videos has both Patrick Chan's and Séguin/Bilodeau's SPs labelled under swimming......

Given the spraying water on the ice near the boards, perhaps there really was someone at CBC paying attention to the stream that they import from Ice Network after all.....

Speaking of liquids, did they get the Rhone River out of the rink yet? I have heard that there is an underground canal in Marseilles, but this is getting ridiculous! :sarcasm:

The last time there was a river pouring into a French arena, I made a Trump joke and got roasted for it. True story.

Some news on Kevin Reynolds.....sounds as though his recent focus has been preparing for a Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT2)

No complaints here. So far, the outcomes of Kevin's quest for a balanced life have produced great results. Look forward to seeing him shine again at nationals...

JLPT was this past Sunday. To be trying for N2 is good! He's made some good progress studying Japanese.

GPF so far

Pairs: :noshake: :hopelessness:
Chiddy: :clapper:

Some other news
Ice dancer Addison Voldeng slipped and broke his tibia and fibula two days ago. He had surgery and is healing up.

Send them some warm wishes if you can, please and thanks.

With the way things are going, Canada has a strong chance for team gold in PC 2018. Current status:

Men

Canada >>> Russia (Patrick, nuff said)

Ladies

Canada << Russia (Osmond is getting top tier TES and PCS, Daleman can bring it at times)

Pairs

Canada > Russia (D/R leads other Russian pairs, Russian pairs win over #2 Canadian pair)

Ice Dance

Canada >>> Russia (V/M and W/P)

Verdict: Gold should be very likely unless Canadian ladies massively bomb. The deficiencies in Russian skating - Men and Ice Dance - are coincidentally Canada's strongest points, so that edge along with other teams from other nations might help place Canada on top. Best overall team seen in years!

the good news for canada is that if the format is the same, only one skater per country will compete per event. 2 events can have 2 skaters (one for the Sp one for the LP)

at sochi, canada opted to have pairs and men split... however, it could be very different this time around.

I don't think Canada would need to risk losing ranking by using two pair teams, when their top pair is 2 time WC and has a huge BV which provides a cushion if mistakes come along.

SO I would think Pairs would be D/R and that means that it strengthens the hold on Russia. I would think that China and Germany can interfere and in ideal conditions, Canada could win both pair programs, whille Germany and China could interfere by placing ahead (in the SP at least) of the Russian pair.

Men : right now, again, one skater is clearly ahead unlike sochi where we could count on Kevin to skate a strong program. We will have to wait to see how this develop.

So, ice dance : here it could be interesting as depending on the SD theme, we could actually see one team for Canada do the SD and the other the FD

Ladies: yes... russian ladies are much stronger than the canadian ones however, only ONE of them by event would compete... same with japanese and USA... so if all goes well, the strongest SP girl Kaetlyn , for instance, could place in top 3 or 4... and perhaps, to make the pressure less heavy on the ladies, Gabby could skate a good free... Japan would be out most likely by then, so one rank closer to Russia.

In any case, all this banter to say that indeed we are in pretty good shape and even better when we consider that where we do lack a bit of depth, we have a top skater...

I really hope they throw WeaPo a bone and let them skate in the team event. Let them get their medal! It's been a rough few years! Lots of successes, mind you, please don't get me wrong, but their placements at worlds after peaking early every season can't be anything but frustrating for them.

Granted, "Reggie" and "Diane" are on the rise and could very well challenge for that silver medal at nationals the next two years, so WeaPo might not even be de facto number 2 next year.... :slink:

It's not called nice dancing. If W/P want a spot in the team event, they'll have to earn it.

Please CBC...get your act together today and show the event as you have committed. Watching Eurosport UK, and being unable to remove the ad boxes, does gets a bit frustrating. I tried a Singapore sports channel and my laptop exploded. I missed some of the Pairs including Julianne and Charlie's skate but after reflecting, that was likely a good thing.

Skating Gods be good to us today, for multiple reasons!

I'm hoping for CBC, but as they get their feed this season from the US Ice Network of infamy, I'm dubious.

Seriously, if stuck, try the Russian ones with Arena/Match feed....I find that they aren't geoblocked in Canada and have minimal ads. The commentary is intense and constant on some, especially sport1, which can be too much even for those of us who have Russian. So you may wish to try to find someone running the A/M no commentary version.

Just watched Messing's skate at Golden Spin and is it possible he might end up # 2 in Canada this year. He wasn't clean here yet he still has a nice score. So if he goes clean he can be in the 80s no prob! Of course a lot depends on how much they bump Liam up in PCS again this year. Don't get me wrong I love Liam's skating but it has been shown over and over that he will not get the same type of PCS internationally that he does at home.

This looks like the first year in a long time where the World team is up for grabs across the board - except probably dance - but even then it will be interesting to see who comes 2nd and 3rd!

Agree that Keegan is coming along well, but Kevin Reynolds is on an accelerating comeback. Kevin's quads are back, his SS are markedly improved, and his 3A finally looks reliable after an exhibition season of including it in his performances.

With 80.57 for his SP at Skate Canada International and a total score of 245.06 for a bronze, and his first GP medal, I strongly expect Kevin to be #2 at nationals.

But yes, given what we've seen so far this fall, and hearing that Liam is injured, I would put Keegan in the hunt for third spot with Roman and Elladj likely taking fourth and fifth depending on how their somewhat inconsistent performances fall out.

By the way, Roman just got the minimum International senior men's TES requirement for both 4CC and Worlds at Golden Spin.:agree:
