2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

Huh, I forgot about that. Weird. And Mao, too-they'd both be considered rather obvious winners, and Mao especially could give the event a popularity boost.

Mao is in Stéphane Lambiel’s Ice Legend which takes place at the same time as TCC.
Shoma may already be in it, or choose not to participate since he is in the same ice show that features Patrick and Javier.

How would that work? Would the event organizers ignore the posted event rules, and force the Team Captains to apply a different, secret set of rules? Or would they just allow the Team Captains to make their selections, and then the organizers would modify the Captain's choices later to meet their own liking for the fan vote?

Huh?

I'm only speculating, but I think it probably was recommended ;) ;) to the team captains that three nominees per category would be a good number. (And choosing three does fit within the previously announced rules.)

And I think that the three "captains' picks" per category were based on what the captains wanted. YMMV.

Voted for So Youn Park, Misha Ge, Angelina Kuchvalska, Alexei Bychenko, Ashley Wagner, Adam Rippon

I tried to vote for the smaller fed skaters who don't get to take part in WTT but it seems like they all have the least votes lol, I hope my vote shows that there is at least some interest in them haha

Glad to see Misha Ge's name. After his breakthrough Worlds in Shanghai, the problems he has had with this season have been so frustrating to see.

There'd be no point in announcing that Team Captain's can choose "up to five" nominees when in reality, they were pressured to choose exactly three in every case. The only reasons I can think of would be: to deceive fans into believing the selection process would be more expansive, or to suit the whims of whoever was running the show rather than allowing the fans to have options. What makes 'three' a good number, in your opinion?

Oddly enough, you were just debating with me in here about a week ago about how the Team Captains could 'make the voting more interesting' by altering the number of nominees. Now, you are speculating that this option may have been completely taken away from the Captains. Does this make the voting less interesting now?

Does anyone know how this system gets the location information?? I'm turning off any location service on my laptop but it seems like my location is reflected in the result and it's kinda scary... :scard7:

Your IP is tied to a geographic location and this is reported to every website you visit. You're gonna need to do a whole lot more than turn off location services.

Thanks. I have long thought IP address is only tied to the country not to the particular region...

I never said that my opinion is/was that three is a good number.
What I said (in so many words) is that now that we have seen the ballot of three nominees per category, it is reasonable to conclude that it prob. was recommended to the team captains that three would be a good number.

As you will remember, I previously brought up the possibility of two nominees being more interesting b/c you -- oddly enough ;) -- scoffed at my comments that perhaps fewer than five nominations would be made per category.

For certain pairings of two nominees, I do think it would potentially be more interesting to have just two going head to head.
I haven't checked the results recently, but Boyang vs. Misha head to head potentially would be more interesting than Boyang vs. Misha vs. Han, IMO.

"Up to five" is an arbitrary requirement. Why not "up to six" or "up to four"?
So the fact that three is an arbitrary number is not upsetting to me. YMMV.

As you previously noted, the maximum number of nominees this year in the case of the Team North America ladies was three.
Who knows, maybe that is the reason that three eventually was deemed to be a good number that was desirable for all categories this year??? Maybe not??? We could speculate about anything and everything ad infinitum.

^^ perhaps the rules got clarified at the time of nominations and had been left open until then? having different numbers to pick from might just lead to speculation or complaint of the style : why did asia get to pick 5 nominees for guys but only did pick 3 for girls or why did america only picked 3 when europe picked 4 etc...

so i think they just decided to do the same number and 3 was picked

It may be that they originally thought they would have up to 5 nominees per category, but got a lot of declines because many skaters are already committed to shows. If they could only come up with 3 viable candidates in some categories, they may have decided to cut them all off at 3.

By the way, I had to try 2 computers and 3 browsers before I was able to vote at all! And I can't see any results breakdown.

The IP lookup thing was interesting. Results were divided about my city, with about half correct and about half locating me at a large city a couple of hundred miles west of here. They do all agree on country and province, and all but one knows my service provider. Facebook thinks my husband is in yet another location, a small town a couple of hundred miles north of here. He hasn't tried to correct it.

Interesting that Shoma isn't a captain's pick. It might be possible that he's already on the team? One more day until we know.

Yeah, I kinda think that this means Hanyu is not going to be there and Shoma is. I kinda thought when we got the new sponsor it was a sign Hanyu would be there.. but who knows. Maybe Shoma did not want to?

Anyway Misha has my number one support regardless.

"Rules got clarified" during nominations? That's cute, especially considering those last-minute 'rule clarifications' have never been announced or clarified to us even now. It's all mysterious and determined on the spot, just like any good rigged system should be.

Yes, because all of the Team Captains going with the same limited uniform format in naming their nominees won't lead to any speculation whatsoever!

Rika had a huge lead earlier, but now that the Koreans are voting, it's changed...99% of them voted for So Youn so far. :laugh2:

When I initially saw So-youn Park so low in the voting, I thought: "Just wait until the Korean fans mobilize and spike the votes!"

Also, the disclaimer on the TCC website stating 'The poll administrator reserves the right to remove votes' they deem suspicious should make for some interesting observations, as they can deduct any number of votes from any skater at their discretion.

Team Asia and their captain should have been announced today? :scratch3:

I hope the votes for So Youn are legitimate, I really want small fed skaters to get a chance, somebody needs to mobilize people to vote for Misha Ge:hap10:
