Why is green room called green room?

I've often wondered that myself over the years, but never bothered finding out. I had heard the term lots of times from people on TV talking about what they were doing backstage before coming on, but never knew the origins of the name. So, when you asked, I looked it up, and found this Wikipedia page:

I guess honestly I don't care about the mistakes or even the eventual placement really. The important thing is just how well they perform that... really like no other One of my favorite programs of all time.
