2016 World Championships Pairs Free Skate

TAT: Pairs is the hardest discipline and appreciates when other countries venture into it. Much easier for Russia and Canada as they have established schools and resources. So she likes to see more diversity.

I did notice that all the free skate-qualifying teams are from larger powerhouse nations. This is the only discipline at Worlds where it's true.

Would be nice if the ISU did something to help encourage and support smaller feds' pairs development efforts.

Because we are supposed to only admire them for their sporting prowess! Looks shouldn't matter at all. (trying not to be shallow here)

I've tried so hard to get into this team (DM/G) but at least their programs this year aren't doing it for me. I'm sorry but something about them is impossibly dull to me. :slink:

He may be hunky but man that choreography was so clunky. It's beautiful music and they used it so badly.

I'm all for eyecandy. Windowshopping is fun and good for the wallet/pocketbook!

Bit iffy throws. Maybe bit cautious, but overall solid skate. They seem pleased

That's why I was excited for Duskova/Bidar winning Junior Worlds. First time in a long time that a non-powerhouse nation won.

Yes, best part of the program are the lifts. The twist needs work. He actually has some grace--so many men just lumber about the ice. Let's hope they stay together longer than the usual 17 minutes for US pair couples.

Lifting, holding, pressing, twisting, vaulting, throwing, and generating speed (often for both partners) can be extremely tiring (especially in warm air or oxygen-starved arenas); so please excuse [at least some of] the lumbering most of us show(ed)...

Signed,
A previous 'lumbering' male pair skater

Totally! I think the North Koreans are promising too (if only their country would let them out to compete more, sigh).

Another helpful reminder that everybody should go look up Matteo Guarise on Google image search. You won't be disappointed! ;)

I appreciate DELLA MONICA/GUARISE's improvement, expecially considering that he used to be a roller skater but they don't have an ounce of originality in their programs.
