2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Also, it is the rank. There are degrees, junior and senior, then candidate for master of sports, then master of sports, then international master of sports, then honorary master of sports. You have to win OGM or multiple world titles to become HMS. Among currently active Russian ladies only Evgeniya is HMS. Yulia and Adelina are HMS as well while Liza is IMS.

I was going to ask about the FS of Medvedeva, but I already learned that the change is official.

Personally, I think music has to be taken into account, and clearly Anna Karenina has many more nuances that justify the jumps. I think there was no need to have a FS with such a high BV, because Evgenia's PCS are superior to those of her main competitor and friend: Zagitova. I really like the body language that Evgenia has acquired, her step sequence is now level 4, and she added a Hydroblade! . I trust she will adjust the program and make it unforgettable.

On the Juniors, I have a love for Trusova, her charisma, her innocent interpretation, her speed and the jumps, are so great!!.
I know that you post Scherbakova as the best Junior in Russia, but from what I understand (and that someone corrects me if it is not), Trusova has already beaten Scherbakova in competition.
Anyway, I love Anna too, and I'm looking forward to her international debut.

Alena has me shocked, I see her mature and sophisticated, her jumps are very good, and her aesthetic of skating is beautiful and attractive: her spins, her flexibility, is like a mixture of all the good qualities of the Russian women. Wow.

I think that without the difficulty and high scores on the tech side, her PCS would take a hit, too. I know it's not supposed to be that way, but it seems likd the two scores often go up and down together. In my opinion, if Medvedeva matches Zagitova on the jumps, she will win without controversy. If not, then it's up to the judges how they want to score it.

Does anyone know why Zagitova's opening choreography sequence was changed for the worse this season? At Russian Nationals last season her choreography sequence included a forward catch-foot spiral, into a spread eagle, into a twizzle, directly into a spin. Now in the program she just does a random slow turn, crossovers, and an ina bauer with a pause before going into the spin, instead of the former choreography.

Despite this issue, I think Zagitova should probably win the Olympics over Medvedeva if they both skate approximately their best. Zag has the superior jump content and even though Medvedeva does have more maturity still, both of Zagitova's programs overall are a little more effective to me (or at least her SP has the potential to be). Already last season she debatably deserved to outscore Medvedeva in the LP, with the SP keeping Medvedeva ahead overall, but I don't think so anymore.

I agree that Evgenia needs the difficulty to ensure her victory. As you mentioned, her PCS scores are as much a reflection of technical ability as artistic excellence. I hope Alina is able to match Evgenia's two 3/3 combinations; the 2A-3T makes her eligible to earn more GOE points, but the judges are always able to reward the extra difficulty in PCS.

62 (her BV in Japan Open )is a good choice . She can complicate her entrances , and add Rippon/Tano , but move ALL cascades to the second half is too risk and afects the program's balanced . She has goods Skating Skills and Transitions , her expressions is good too, so her PCS's will always be high. Her technical level is balanced (TES 75-77). In my opinion I consider that having added an Ina Bahuer, a spiral and that great Hydroblade, gives the aesthetic touch necessary. I do not think it's necessary to have a monstrous TES.

Zagitova has all her Jumps in the second half, Don Quixote is a complicated program. I love Alina and I think she is the real rival (Osmond, the "second best in the world", unfortunately is not considered as favorite, at least for me, Wakaba and Mihara could be potential rivals). I would have liked a new program for Alina, which indicates more maturity, but it is the Olympic season, it was smart to keep this FS that shines its great technical level. Obviously Alina has all this season to polish her expression, her lines, and give us the best Versus season .

Osmond is not better than Zagitova by any means. Only hilarious inflation on PCS marks can help her to be higher than clean Zagitova.
I kinda like Osmond, but come on, the girl who is struggling just to execute 7 jumps shouldn't surpass the girl who is performing the hardest combo like nothing special.

If you're talking jumping and difficulty of entry transitions Zags is definitely better. But in terms of artistry, projection, and refinement Osmond is light years ahead of Zagitova.
