Exactly! It's the blessing and the course of being from a Country that has so much talent, especially when it comes to the ladies. Going back to Maria B. whom we all know that I love. Her rivalry with Irina was legendary and though I liked Irina, Maria was my gal. I imagine that Med fans may not like Alina because she is a "Credible" threat to Evgenia's Throne as the Queen of Figure Skating.

I think their rivalry provides some interest. But if either of them win (any competition) I will be just as happy as if their placements were reversed.

It's actually not so true. Many Evgenia's fans have become also fans of Alina. They both are incredibly talented and come from the same camp. I feel like it's the russian media who tries to make them rivals because it's more interesting this way.

I hope this is true. I remember seeing fluff pieces on Irina and Michelle and the fact that behind the scenes.. They were actually friends.
I want her to become the next Carolina Kostner. Lori Nichol can do that.

Russian skating internet went crazy for Alina. 'Official' story is Zhenya being miles ahead, Alina needing to learn a lot, gaining experience, respect the older colleague, but you can feel deep inside nobody would mind big Olympic surprise to happen.
I wouldn't. But even though Alina is on a higher trajectory than Zhenya agewise, I think she'll not have time to surpass her in this season.
And this can repeat in 2022: Alina might be able to win the Olympic gold, despite other girls having been practicing quads for quite a time.

I like Alina well enough, but I don't feel any investment in her yet. Technically impressive, emotionally not so much. Besides that, she's a bit of an enigma. What is she like outside the rink? I have no clue, while we all know about Evgenia's personality, interests & hobbies, which make her seem much more relatable. I also have the feeling that the next Olys winner will end up just being another flash in the pan...which would be sad for either girl, but more likely (imo) for the 15-year-old. Winning gold seems like the kiss of death for most ladies' careers in recent times. So in one sense I almost hope Evgenia won't win so she'll continue to be hungry to compete.

If winning an Olympic Gold is a flash in a pan, I doubt any lady would trade it for the longevity of the career. Plus, Alina has just won a GP event gold in her senior debut, which Adelina, or Yulia did not achieve. I think realistically, though, Silver or Bronzes is more realistic for Alina at the Olympics.

Evgenia has a very important feature: she's an extrovert and the excessive attention of people doesn't seem to stress her, as it did to Lipnitskaya. That's why I don't worry much about what's going to happen after the Olympics. Considering this and Evgenia's supportive attitude to others, I think her presence in the team alone can make the team immune to such troubles. Along with Eteri's experience and strictness, of course.
Also, Evgenia has said that she's going to compete for as long as she physically can.

I think Alina should capitalize as much as she can this year. It is risky to bet on 2022 Olympics ....you never know what will happen in this 4-5 year with her, not to speak about the other ladies who already have quads and 3A
Alina always speaks very warmly about her family and pets. She seems to have a lot of love to invest in others. I perceive her as a feminine yet childish typology characterized by gentleness, a little fragility. She also seems playful.
On the other hand, Evgenia always looks so business oriented, very rationale and pragmatic in everything.

This is only the second season Alina skates internationally, and this is the 5th season for Evgenia. I don't recall I knew much about Evgenia back in 14-15 season.

Well, obviously. But that's why I take issue with the comment that "nobody would mind" Alina beating her. Evgenia has built up a pretty solid fanbase and of course the fans might mind. As an Evgenia fan I wouldn't hold it against Alina at all, but I also wouldn't be very excited about her victory. It's also the fact that I don't find her performances very engaging (though I do like the weird gala program). That may change with time, but I don't think it will change in 3 months.
Well, if you need those stories, I read that Alina left her home when she was 12 or 13 years old to move to Moscow for training, she moved without her parents and younger sister, and only recently her grandma moved to Moscow to care of Alina.

Wow beautiful off-ice axels (and other jumps!) Very impressive... She's got the mindset of a champion, which by itself is impressive, but at 13 years old is phenomenal.
