2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I don't get all this hype of participating at the Olympic Games, even if you don't have a chance to medal :slink:

Making an Olympic team is a huge accomplishment in itself; it shows that you are among the top 2-3 athletes in your sport in your country. It's the only moment in which many sports really attract mainstream media attention and broad general audiences, so for the vast majority of athletes it's the only chance to be publicly recognized for the enormous sacrifices and long years of training they invest in their sport. And the Olympics are an extraordinary experience. Even if you aren't the very best in your sport worldwide, you have the opportunity not only to meet and compete with the icons of your sport, but to live alongside them--and fellow athletes in your sport and others, from your country and around the world--for two weeks. Who wouldn't want that?

just it didn't) 82.40 WR
anyway. :noshake: I stopped reading any press .... they are all just awful.....
doesn't help anybody... :disagree:
Agree in general, it depends though.
If Alina and Zhenya are as level-headed girls and getting perfectly along as they seems to be in all videos, interviews and photos, the whole (artificial!) opposition might significantly pump up the public interest for Olympic skating.

If there are any chances of things getting out of control thus influencing their relationship, then of course they should avoid that.

Do we know yet the list of ladies skaters who have qualified for senior Russian nationals??

Ugh, why don't you follow my posts and don't get my wisdom. :disapp:

Can Polina take the 3rd spot? Does any know her well to tell what she might do at the Nationals? I only ask about her potential here, since I am aware that having all the Ladies from Eteri's school might be a bit problematic for the Fed.

After the way Tuk skated in France, does she have any chance of getting on the team? Even if she were to skate well at Nationals, I imagine a committee could keep her off the team due to her poor GP showings.

Maybe the federation will send Masha, Polina, and Alina to Euros to sort this mess out and give Zhenya a breather

Maybe, maybe not. In 2014, Euros was very important for the RusFed heading into Sochi.
Also, I think Alina's a clear shot onto the team if she doesn't bomb nationals.
I think they'd want to send Polina, Maria, and either Elizaveta or Anna. Or Evgenia/Alina to give a guaranteed European win.

It'll be tough for her. CSKA has just built second training rink exclusively for figure skating(!), they are the most powerful and richest fs club in Russia and Maria Sotskova has just advanced to the GPF, being praised by Buyanova as "uniquely graceful, sensitive and feminine skater". I can't picture the most prestigious club in Russian fs, representing reigning OC and two well-known skaters like Radionova and Sotskova losing 3rd spot game to 16yo debutant.
Of course good luck to Polina as I strongly dislike army clubs in general (esp. in football, where they are 'stealing' players-recruits from other regions).
