Fantastic... Really looking forward to enjoying that 160p performance at the junior world championships after stealing a worthy skater's spot.

The good thing is, Anna shouldn't be able to get top 4 here so she wouldn't be the one bumped off the team due to Konstantinova. But whoever it is, I'm going to be heartbroken for them. 3 spots is already too few for these talented girls but having only 2 spots is far more cruel.
 
Kostornaya is my favourite junior lady, I hope she would be on the podium, just like how she created many miracles this season.

I also wish the best of luck to Gubanova! It was the first time I watch her real-time in Nationals and she was absolutely stunning. Such pure talent of skating skills that no any Russian single skater could match - be that junior or senior, men or ladies - shall not be kept from shining internationally.

(Ahem). We get it that you absolutely hate Konstantinova, but please keep some perspective and be factual.

Firstly -- Russia only needs the top 2 skaters to have a combined placement of 13 or less to keep the 3 spots. Trusova and Kostornaia are almost guaranteed to do that. Even last year, Zagitova + Konstantinova were 1+ 6 = 7 to get the 3 spots -- if Konstantinova hadn't existed, Zagitova + Tsurskaya 1 + 10 = 11 would still retain 3 spots.

Secondly -- This is insulting to Tarakanova as well. For all you know, she could place a resounding 3rd and make it impossible to send anyone else to JW.

Thirdly -- We probably needn't worry too much about Konstantinova being anointed into 3rd at JNats when the Junior version of her SP has not favoured her due to the required 3Lz single jump. The shift from 3Lz + 3T to 3F + 3T and backloading the combo (vs. a front-loaded 3Z3T being her previous norm) both contributed to the errors that cost her a 2nd JGP spot. So, this is the most likely comp where Tarakanova and / or Gubanova can beat her as she is the least likely of those 3 to be clean in the SP.

Would I root for Konstantinova to go to JW this year? No, and IMO she should withdraw from JNats since she is well in the way to qualify for Senior GP next season and already has enough results from Sr Nats + CS to make a case for 2 GP spots. But at the same time, let's not engage in unnecessarily vindictive speculation.

Not just Euros, but anywhere! There are at least six obvious diamonds in the rough that you'd expect one or two make it in Seniors, and that's not talking about the rest of these that may end up developing into dominant forces themselves. It's truly amazing.

First of all, I was talking about 2 spots as in the 2 spots that Konstantinova doesn't take. They obviously are going to keep 3 spots. I'm surprised someone could even take me to mean it that way, it'd make absolutely no sense.

Second, yes, she perhaps should. I'm assuming massively inflated scores for Konstantinova, however. You saw her score 140+ with a flawed FS at senior nationals, right?

Third, we'll see about that. I wish I could be that optimistic.


The biggest issue isn't that I hate Konstantinova personally(I just dislike her skating), it's that she keeps getting scored like she's Medvedeva yet is still skating in juniors. Do you think I'd have enjoyed it if Medvedeva had skated in junior nationals last season, also? If she's so old and gets such high scores, she should not be in juniors taking away potentially once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
 
Again, perspective. Konstantinova started skating at age 7 or 8, which is around 4 years behind most Russian competitive skaters. So in terms of total years of skating experience, she currently has around the same as a first year junior, even though she is at the 2nd year of senior eligibility in raw age (was still 16 at 1 Jul 2017).

While none of us can read the minds of RusFed, they probably have in mind that since Konstantinova (a) kept her jumps post-puberty and (b) had to squeeze in the same amount of technical development that other skaters had 4 years more to do to get to this level, they still think it is worthwhile to keep her on the international circuit. Letting a 17 year old who has been skating since age 3 remain in Juniors because she's uncompetitive on the Senior circuit is one thing, but they are trying to take into account that she's a 17 year old with the equivalent number of skating years as her 13 year old teammates, and making allowance for that.

I don't support Konstantinova being held up solely with PCS over others who deliver stronger content, and don't support her going to JW, but respectfully disagree that she is single-handedly clogging up the system and robbing the younger girls. The girl has already faced enough adversity with a late start, and also was held back from JGP in the 2015-16 season when she could have done better than Mikhailova / Pervushkina, not to mention that Russia was too reliant on Sima who bombed, and ended up with spots they eventually couldn't fill. She could easily have dropped off completely at any time in the past 3-4 years, and could possibly drop out within the next season or two if she's not able to hold her ground at GP. Russia is crowded, but IMO the Fed is learning to be more nimble in putting the right skaters in the right place at the right time (case in point: Kostornaia) and I'm more optimistic that they can optimize their talent now vs. 2-3 years ago.
 
Russian junior nats is one of the best events in this season! Just can't wait!

I was prepared to dislike Konstantinova, but then I saw her do a solid FP and I didn't see any obvious 'issues'. Let's see how she does at RJN.

she has many issues, she skates from her back, no solid 3-3 combos and has never skated a clean skate ever.
 
I have officially joined Team Zagitova. Have never been a Medvedeva fan. With my girl Elena out Zagitova will be my new Russian lady.
