2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Too many bad news... Only silver in the team event for Alina and Zhenya, and now one of the most beautiful athlete in the world is out from curling semi-final.

Really, only spoiled mood and wasted time, nothing else sport could give. Disgusting.

I'm worried for Alina if she wins the OGM what will happen with her? with her future skating career and life?
I mean Evgenia is super stable and when I look at her I'm convinced that an OGM will not change her for the worse or destabilize her in anyway...
But Alina... she seems so fragile just on the edge, making efforts to control her emotions. At least this is my perception.

If both are clean, I guess Zhenya should win anyway. For clean skate she can expect +20 points to her BV by GOE, as she received at WTT 2017.

At Euros she left many GOE's on the table, you can notice there are pretty enough +1 instead of +2 or +3, how it was at WTT. Nevertheless, her PCS were 77 for the not clean skate. At WTT it was 78. So with clean skate she should get 78-79 PCS.

Same story with the short program, Evgenia is able to reach 43 points for the TES and 38-39 for the PCS, because for the not clean skate she got 38 PCS, at WTT for the clean one, it was 37.7 PCS.

If Alina skates clean in Individuals, a new World Record is for sure coming!!!!!! She will definitely get over 160 Points then!! I'm SO rooting for her RN :yahoo: She was GREAT!! A little bit tentative yet, but I have a feeling her next Skate will be marvellous!!!

I hope Evgenia will win this. I feel that she deserves better this medal. She dominated the field in the last 3 years and, I like it or not, I have to admit that she improved a lot in terms of interpretation. For example, I really like the short program, she's really in it. And I know that the "power" of an OGM wouldn't impact her in a negative way.
I would love for Alina to stay and to progress, to see her in new memorable programs. She can do even better than now.

Agreed. But I, on the contrary, like more Evgenia's free program, especially that part with the stsq. That music during it is just awesome, and her flow is really very good there.

This FP is my top among all seniors this season so far. Really very nice.

I like seeing Evgenia hungry. I disagree with how high Alina is scoring and I'm mad she's a threat to the real czarina, but being threatened by her has definitely made Evgenia hungry - we didn't really see that last season from her - every win was a foregone conclusion for her and she couldn't help but be aware of it and do somewhat silly things, like the extra -3Ts.

I want her to win OGM so much. Aside from her skating, she has the maturity, confidence, and sense of self to handle being OGM in such a popular sport, and she's an excellent representative as a Russian lady who has not been devoured by the intense competition and has lasted more than a year or two. The public scrutiny and fame won't hurt her. Alina I am not so sure about - she's so young.

I can’t be the only person who would love to see the baby (Zagitova) win the OGM.

I'm with you! While both her and Evgenia are both lovely and great talents, I just prefer Zagitova more. My hope is that if Alina does win the OGM, she'll stick around for a few more years and really try to improve her artistry and emotional connection with the program since she'll already have won the biggest prize. I'm hoping she does that even if she doesn't win.

I am surprised how much I agree with you. I think the first time ever.
Olympic gods are not known for granting wins to the most deserved, unfortunately. I hope that at least this Olympic they will be a bit more fair. They blundered in ski jumping, though, but I hope that's enough.
Next to Mikaela Shiffrin, Evgenia is the most deserving candidate for gold. Any other outcome will prove the gods are fooling with us...

Nope, I'm with you too! Zagitova has much better jumps, correct edges, better spins, more flexibility, more difficult transitions. I also prefer her more subtle Don Quixote to Anna Karenina, but thats just preference. People may see that Evgenia should have an edge in PCS for her "maturity" even though that's not what PCS is based on. But the TES should separate Alina by putting her miles above Evgenia, especially if you compare element by element GOE. And no, Evgenia does not deserve gold more. The skater who is better that day will deserve it more. People of all ages compete in the Olympics when they meet the cut off. It's Alina's first season, and Evgenia has been winning for two, but that is not what makes one deserving of an Olympic title.

That "Alina" smile is worth 75 PCS! If Zhenya wants that gold medal badly enough she'll incorporate it into her program.

Did you see the Documentary on Alina and Evgenia? Evgenia has been practicing the smile for awhile. There is even a section on that very subject in the Documentary. It’s going to take a lot practicing to beat Alina’s Golden smile.
