2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I've also read that with Evgenia.. It said she will be concentrating on fully healing her ankle which to me sounds like a very wise choice!! In order t have a long, healthy carreer, the last thing you should do is to rush a recovery after a difficult injury (Looking at you, Valentina Rodionenko!)

I hope she is healthy and can skate there. But IF she has a health problem, I hope she can focus on her healing and will not be forced to compete. She has potential and I want her to stick around for long. And she needs to be healthy for that.

it's official

Trusova “I have two quads (Salchow and toeloop) in my free skating and I want to land them and skate clean,” the 13-year-old added.

Ugh, I don't like this, it was was so scary at Russian cup, I don't want her to get hurt. Also, she doesn't need 2 quads. She has the lead after SP, and with even fall on 4S she beat Alena at JGPF. When Sasha falls on 4S she can recover program quite well. But falling on both 4S or even just the 4T on scary fall will take all her energy out of her and the rest of the program will be lost. It's her junior world title to lose, so I don't think quads are good idea. I love that she wants to be first to land quads and ambition is amazing in someone who is 13, but there are also other important things, like junior world title and staying injury-free...

Averbukh says that Zhenya is seeing a doctor, and that she may need surgery but it is unclear at this time. I don't know why Averbukh would lie about such a thing, but it does seem odd coming from him and not one of her coaches. I wouldn't count her out of worlds just yet, but this is a little... concerning.

Why the heck is Averbukh even commenting? What does any of this have to do with him?

“Hey, you! Hey, big spender, over here! I’m 13. The minute you walked in I could see you had lots of money. And you’re hot too! And so refined. Wanna know what I’m thinking? Well, I’ll get right to the point: I don’t do it for just anybody! So, you wanna spend a little time with me? Wouldn’t you like to have fun, fun, fun? I could show you a good time.”

Shush. You better support Sasha with her two quads, instead of blaming her short program's music! 😕

At least she doesn't pop her cork for every man she sees... :drama::biggrin:

20 minutes to go and I definitely will skip it. Don't know who of you can be so strong and so tough to be able to watch the last ladies group.

Trusova
possible FS jump layout for tomorrow
4S, 4T // 3Lz3Lo, 3F-1lo-3S, 3Lz3T, 3F, 2A
if all level 4 and fully rotated
BV = 79,12

:scratch2:

Wow, good for her! I hope everything is clean. What an amazing little girl! She will need the ambition to stay atop Russian Hunger Games.

I’m curious to know if her technique is only viable for a very specific group of individuals.

Obviously Julia had issues post puberty and I believe Serafima was also her student, who has struggled.

Additionally, her male students don’t seem to excel in the same way her female pre-pubescent pupils do.

Obviously Evgenia has gone through puberty but she also seems to be struggling more with her jumps than in the past.

Is there a way for her to bridged that gap? I would hate to see Zagitova or the other promising juniors have to end their careers prematurely.

I think that making a hint would be enough but you make me write my point in big detail. Hope, this time it will be clear.

I do not pretend to know for sure but this is what comes from her many interviews and what is also logical.

Eteri is building the strongest star producing school in the world. And she is not like TAT who has been around for ages - she just came back from the USA around 2000 then worked in a circus, then worked in a school. She started in Khrustalny just in 2008. Started with 6 - 8 year old girls.

How would you ensure to have the best senior skaters? You might be willing to try your luck - to get one Caro who will be around for 20 years (not that I agree with her recent scores). Osmond's example is another good one. One can argue - Canadian ladies are late bloomers. Osmond was never spectacular as a junior. And now she is reigning (still) world silver medalist and OBM winner. I don't buy this argument. When Osmond retires there is no guarantee that there will be soon another "Osmond".

Eteri is building on immense popularity of figure skating among Russian parents. Many want their girls to do figure skating. And all the ambitious ones want to train with Eteri. She has a serious filter in receiving and whoever cannot handle is welcome out. So, she started with 6 - 8 year old 10 years ago. How many post puberty students can one expect her to produce by now?

What she achieved in juniors is beyond any doubts. Now, how many long lasting senior champions will her school produce? No one knows. But I would argue that her approach - the strength in numbers - is much more scientific than sitting and waiting if another Osmond or Kostner are going to show up.

As for men, I am sure, she is going along the same path. But the intial choice is much smaller. Because of that boys are more capricious - she has issues handling them as she does not expect to be talked back with girls. I think she still can be successful but it will take more time. Who just won men's world juniors?
