2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Pluchenko is all about the PR for his school. It's no surprise
Good luck to Sima

I can't see any PR in it for the school. Do you think the school needs more PR? He said Sima is more powerful skater, he didn't say she is better, or better jumper and she will beat Evgenia. That is just one part of the skating..Right?

I can see the inexperience on all these bold statements.

Yes Serafima is good (for the records i liked her more than Zhenya in 2014-15), but first we have to see all of this in competition.

We heard for years "this skater is better than Medvedeva" and they all lost so far.

Did Plushenko say Sima is better skater? :rolleye:

Good luck to Sima! I'm so happy that she didn't give up. It's no easy task to change jumping technique, I just hope she can make it and show her true quality on ice!

It is necessary to get used to the new status of Zhenya - now her name will often use in PR the purposes, especially soon the Olympic Games.

He has told more powerful skating. Well it indeed - at them is different styles.

Yes, I agree. I didn't understand the "PR" stuff...

Don't you know how PR is working?
You say "Serafima..." and just a few people know who she is and will read it.
You say Medeveda, Lipnitskaya ... and it just brings way more attention.
That's it.

I love Serafima and hope this works out, but I think it's just asking for trouble when you say things like "she is the most powerful skater, better than Medvedeva, etc." Of course I understand PR, but I don't think she is at the stage where this PR can be helpful to her at all. Let her come back slowly and fix her jumps and then we can talk...

First off, Plush said that her jump technique has serious issues and needs to be reworked - how is that painting a rosy-tinted picture? Secondly, of course he thinks she has promise - if he did not, why would he take her on? Thirdly, if he didn't think she had promise, he would be absolutely the wrong person to take her on. If her coach did not believe in her, how could she believe in herself? And clearly she has a lot of hard work ahead of her - unless people think reworking jump technique is easy.

Well, I think he went a little overboard comparing her to Medvedeva (although I understand that her name brings more page views). And there are a lot of other girls she has to contend with who are pretty powerful themselves. I just don't want people to take it out on Sima if her coach is being overly boastful before she is able to prove anything. And it sets up high expectations that she may not be able to meet right away. If she doesn't do well in Minsk or at the Cup of Russia you can just imagine how harsh the usual critics will be.

Yes especially when he said that they will work on quad sal and quad toe, it is concerning because if i remember correctly, Serafima got injured when she was working on the 4s with Alina Pisarenko.

Restoring all the triple jumps and skating 7 triples programs consistently should be the priority now, but it's good that they are reworking the axel technique.

I don't think Plushenko is a PR expert when he gives an interview..

 You say "Plushenko" ..and it just brings way more attention..much more than any other names. And this is not exaggeration by an über... His name is used for PR purposes. For example a journalist made an interview with Slutskaya, that was a great interview. She mentioned Plushenko once in it and Plushenko's name was in the title..

Plushenko works on quads with the younger girls in the academy. I no wonder if he mentioned it in Sima's case. We will see.

You believe me, if he said it he thinks that. I know him. Sometimes he is very impulsive, he immediately says what he thinks in that moment. That's all.

Finally the interview in english http://fs-gossips.com/evgeni-plushenko-is-to-coach-serafima-sakhanovich/

Unfortunately isn't the whole intervew.

Sima's interview https://rsport.ria.ru/figure_skating/20170926/1126297717.html

I was going to finish my career, but I can say that Evgeni (Plushenko) persuade me. It was my initiative (to change a coach). He has his show, and I thought that maybe there could be a place for me. But first I said about the idea to finish with the sport, and Evgeni answered me: “It’s too early to finish, you are 17, you do not have to finish, but to work. You will always have time to finish.” Now I’m completely ready to work, not ready to give up. And I do love to work.

Everything was good, they worked with me, and I worked, I tried. But I did not show any progress. There was no result. Then I thought that maybe it’s time to finish? I spent a lot of moral strength, also the school was abandoned. Of course, I studied, passed the exams, but an impact wasn’t as it should be. It turned out that both on the ice and in life, I have been standing still for these two or three years. – Serafima told

I do like that Plushenko is to coach Serafima. While I feel that taking Adelina to his group might have been more of a publicity move, he does seem serious with Serafima and I do think she has talent, which she has not yet realised. So lets see, I do hope it works out, Sima really needed a radical change if she wishes to continue and maybe Plushenko will give her just that.

I also think it's important for Plushenko to have a few high calibre skaters, so he can get 'out there' already and establish himself as a coach. All the best for them both. :)

Yes, probably! And Plushenko knows the Russian media very well.... but after two months working? This is the reason why I said he didn't want to make PR. His haters can use this against him and they will! Plush didn't think too much he said what he believes what are his plans now.

Taking a former young prodigy who experienced a sudden decline and transforming them into a top-level skater makes a way better story than just about anything else. Sure, Yulia or Adelina would've been ideal due to their fame, but Serafima will do.

The former training mate and rival of the World Champion who never got any senior success, struggling and forgotten, taken under the wing of Plushenko and trained to become a champion-level skater to once again face down her rival - only this time, she will be the one to win!!!

It's unlikely and unrealistic, but it's very appealing from a PR perspective. Is he coaching Serafima for free? I recall reading that she left Eteri because she and her mother could not afford to live in Moscow neighborhoods that were not full of crime, so I imagine that they would struggle financially in Plushenko's school.

I doubt he coaches her for free, probably he'll give her a solid discount.
