2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

for me - Evgenia, Polina, Alina :laugh2: Is it too much too ask?

Hey I wouldn't mind Polina at all, I just really like Masha also. Also is it common for all three skaters to come from a single coach? When was the last time Russia had three ladies for Olympics?

I want Anna on that team, everyone else doesn't matter....hehe...:yay: But if we're allowed to create an 'impossible' team, for me it would be:

Anna P..
Elena R.
Alina Z.

it's difficult to choose .. I have reasons to choose every girl ...

Evgenia- she really deserves it, she is the current wolrd champion, she was unbeatable for a long time
Anna- she is also amazing, a real lady on ice , enjoyable to watch
Alina - her amazing tech scores! the new prodigy!
Elena- I love her, I "discovered" Lena in 2010! She was incredible cute and talented
Polina- her incredible jumps amazed me..so elegant and fluid
Liza- she is from Mishin's team...this would be enough but I like her style and jumps..
Maria- a little bit boring but so nice and elegant
.
.
.

Julia- I woud like to see her in good shape again..
Adelina- that would be bombastic if she could go to KOREA with Plushy..

My "dream team" is Evgenia, Alina, Elena.
Evgenia - except for flutz she is a full package: incredible TES and PCS and of course legendary consistency. I hope she'll stay injury free for Olympic season (and get some decent program)
Alina - If somebody told me last year that Alina Zagitova will be JGPF and Junior Worlds winner I would have asked "Who?!". Her stamina and technique are just superb and if puberty won't attack her she will rival with Zhenya for gold
Elena - after some hardships I can say that she is back. Lena bombed Nationals but she was also able to qualify for GPF and was second in short program during WTT. Her jumps are still shaky but she is slowly dealing with them.

I say Evgenia, Polina and Anna.

Evgenia - well, whatever we say, she will be in the team and she will medal.
Polina - for her jumps. Also, what we have seen of her last season was more than enough to want to see her in the team.
Anna - really amazing and mature skaters. I'm 50-50 on her, tbh, because while I want to see her skating clean, I fear her meltdowns.

Masha doesn't seem to be so popular around here but may I remind all that aside from Evgenia and Alina, she was on the podium at the last Russian Nationals. And she also placed behind Evgenia at the Worlds.

I noticed that both Masha and Alina are going to TEB. They both seem to be two very big Francophiles, do you think this affected their decision to send them?

RF separated Alina from Anna and Evgenia to maximize their chances for GPF. They are the only 3 russian ladies who never meet each other during GP series. I don't even think Russian Fed knows anything about Alina's or Maria's personal preferences. They couldn't care less ))) It's the Rus Fed we're talking about, right?

I'm pretty sure most skaters prefer going to GPF rather than choosing a country where they will compete in their GPs.
And i'm pretty sure only a very bad and incompetent federation would allow their skaters personal preferences to win over a good competition strategy ;)
(As for knowing the preferences, they may know - but they wouldn't automatically grant them, and would go from top to bottom - so for example Evgenia and Alina would have their preferences granted unless its bad strategy, and Masha maybe not so much).

I don't think it has to do with being popular. Russian Nationals is Russian Nationals. Last season was Maria's debut season and it seemed to me that the Russian Fed wanted to promote her, put her out there, make her lose the competition nerves. That didn't work out, at least in the later season. She didn't win a GP. Was off-podium at the GPF. While she ended up second Russian at Worlds, she didn't exactly shine there. She also ended off-podium and prevented the russian sweep at Europeans. Every other country and they would take her - no question. But now the reigning Junior World Champ goes senior. If she delivers, she's in. And that last place is a fight between Anna, Elena and Maria. (perhaps others too) Outside of personal preference I could see both Anna and Elena winning a medal at the Olympics, even if there are two Russians on the podium already. Maria - I don't see it. Our commentators described her as pale, a bit boring, too juniorish. She's young okay, but in that field, in this year, it is hard to catch up. If you don't have it now, a even younger girl will come and take your place.

I agree with other posters, Russian Fed prevented Evgenia, Alina and Anna to meet on the GP. I guess that's the preferred team. They will see how they do. If another girl takes a win and/or makes the final, she's also a candidate. If Anna makes mistakes/doesn't make GPF/doesn't medal, she's out. She's got to be perfect next season, she will have it really hard. I love her, but she destroyed so much for herself at Worlds. One more competition like that, and I don't think she can make it. The risk would be too high, and they should leave her at home. The next in line - Elena - hasn't been to the Olympics, being too young at Sochi. I don't doubt she will fight like a lion for that spot and she is a really beloved skater in Russia.

It probably all depends on how Alina does in her debut. Will she be another Evgenia, or is Evgenia a once in a lifetime sensation? Let's see.

OK I just thought it was a coincidence also because Evgenia likes Japan a lot and she's been sent to NHK.

Evgenia is a different case. As a two time world champion her preferences could have been taken into consideration and she was the first to choose. For Alina it's her first senior season. I remember Zhenya at Skate America and I'm sure Alina's capable of repeating that success in her first GP event. I really hope to see her in GPF in Japan.

Some news:

Polina Tsurskaya has rare disease and her team has many doubts about her health if she will continue skating.

Oh nooooo. I was a fan of her this season! I thought out of the Russian ladies, she was the one to beat in terms of musicality. Her glide on the ice is gentle, soft, lyrical... and I believe she can produce magic, given the right vehicle.

Some news:

Adelina Sotnikova will be coached by Evgeni Plushenko.

*pretends to be shocked.

Some news:

Elena Radionova moved to Buyanova.

I hope Shade Princess can get it together and finish top 3 on the Nationals. That would make the Russian ladies Olympic selection interesting.

Some news:

Alina Zagitova is coming.

What if she ends up the OGM? And yay, beautiful rippons!

News from kindergarten:

Two Eteri's little cuties practice quad jumps. Anna Scherbakova - 4T, Sasha Trusova - 4S.
Three girls are practicing 3A - Anastasia Gulyakova, Sasha Trusova and Katya Kurakova. But I saw clean 3A only from Gulyakova.
Two Nastya's Gubanova and Tarakanova are ready to show their magnificent skating skills.

:eeking:

Where did they emerge from? Wasn't she coached by Mishina anyway?

I seem to remember that Mishin sounded rather negative about Liza N lately in the interviews - like her not working hard enough, her attitude... Apparently things were not great between them so I would not be surprised if the rumours are correct. But isn't Liza's grandfather Mishin's friend?

Graice will face Alina at least two times during GP series. Poor Gracie, I feel for her.
