Last season was Maria's debut season and it seemed to me that the Russian Fed wanted to promote her, put her out there, make her lose the competition nerves. She also ended off-podium and prevented the russian sweep at Europeans. Every other country and they would take her - no question. But now the reigning Junior World Champ goes senior. (perhaps others too) Outside of personal preference I could see both Anna and Elena winning a medal at the Olympics, even if there are two Russians on the podium already. Maria - I don't see it. Our commentators described her as pale, a bit boring, too juniorish. She's young okay, but in that field, in this year, it is hard to catch up. If you don't have it now, a even younger girl will come and take your place.

I agree with other posters, Russian Fed prevented Evgenia, Alina and Anna to meet on the GP. I guess that's the preferred team. They will see how they do. If another girl takes a win and/or makes the final, she's also a candidate. If Anna makes mistakes/doesn't make GPF/doesn't medal, she's out. She's got to be perfect next season, she will have it really hard. I love her, but she destroyed so much for herself at Worlds. One more competition like that, and I don't think she can make it. The risk would be too high, and they should leave her at home. The next in line - Elena - hasn't been to the Olympics, being too young at Sochi. I don't doubt she will fight like a lion for that spot and she is a really beloved skater in Russia.

It probably all depends on how Alina does in her debut. Will she be another Evgenia, or is Evgenia a once in a lifetime sensation? Let's see.

I like Maria as a skater and have since she was on the junior level. I don't find her boring but she's not exactly exciting to watch either. She did really well in the first half of the season but once she made it to the big stages (Euros and worlds) she faded. Anna, bless her, fell to pieces which might have been the last straw for her. I think both Maria and Anna are going to have to be excellent this season or they will be passed over. Even if they are good after what happened at worlds the RF might still pass them over if there are better prospects.

Polina Tsurskaya is debuting next season (listed for two GPs) and if she were to stay healthy I think she'd be the #3 ahead of Anna, Maria, Elena, etc. Is there any more news regarding the disease/illness Polina has? Will she skate next season? I've always been a fan of her jumps but she really impressed me with her improvements to her presentation last season. She's such a gifted jumper and has the makings of a great overall skater as well. It would be such a shame if she were unable to compete anymore due to health reasons.:(

Wouldn't it be easier to switch to pairs? At least she has one or two decent triples and can spin solo with a partner. With dance, she cannot show off her spins, and her ss isn't exact that great.

From my experience at the lower levels a lot of skaters are terrified of pairs, you have to be really fearless to be able to go for it. If Alisa wasn't brave enough, there's nothing wrong with that and I don't blame her. Even if she could spin solo in a pairs team, she'd probably outclass her partner by a mile anyway. She's very flexible so many she could give us some creative positions in the lifts and dance spin?

A little disappointed to hear about the switch though, I liked her a lot as a singles skater, all the luck to her.

ETA: She said on ask.fm that pairs is scary and ice dance is a beautiful sport that she likes better (based on Google Translate)

All the best to Alisa but I will definitely miss her spins.
As already mentioned hope she'll show off some interesting lift positions.

She also wrote, it would be super tough to compete with "conveyor belt" from Tutberidze group. She thinks they are going to win most of their competitions.

i havent found anything like "conveyor belt" said by her. Can you show where you found that?

Veronika's list of students on FSkate.ru is pretty sparse, but she has Liza's cousin, Andrei Kutovoy, who is extremely talented. I wonder if Mishin is cutting back on the students in his group because he is getting older & maybe he wants to focus his energies in the Olympic season on just the top skaters. At least I hope Liza & Petr will get to develop artistically now & not get stuck with the bad packaging & choreo that Mishin's seniors have.
