This probably deserves its own thread, but maybe a Russian fan here can tell us if this news source is any good or not because I do not know? It's not worth its own thread if it's not confirmed.
According to this article, Yulia has "completed her career" after a 3-month treatment program for anorexia.

Seems like this came out after Mr Piseev, the Russian Fed president, said that Yulia should announce her retirement or her future plans asap to stop FS fans' speculations. The announcement apparently came from her mother and she also said that the RusFed had known this since April.

She looked amazing, but the change was too drastic it seems.
I remember how shocked I was seeing her so thin all of sudden.

Serafima. And possibly Ekaterina Kurakova, who is age eligible now & is not doing the JGP. I'm not sure what's going on with her.

I am a little bit worried about Evgenia, too. She is so thin. She has been mentally strong, so far. How about the pressure of the olympics? And there are young ladies, who have potential to reach the same tecnhical level, so she have to skate clean in the future, too.

Everyone at the Olympics has to deal with the pressure of the Olympics. I think Evgenia is better equipped to handle it than anyone else, but of course, she is human and one never knows for sure what will happen to any athlete. Risk comes with the territory, but that is what they all signed up for.

Evgenia has always been super thin. She actually started from being an underdog, and gradually get to where she is today. So if she can not handle the pressure, probably nobody can. It is also good to have strong competitions from Alina, or Anna/Elena/Liza/Maria on the side, so that not all Russian's hope is on her.
I agree. I checked once videos from her past skating and Evgenia has always been short and thin so it's probably how she is.
According to Eteri Zhenya had no natural talent in figure skating so everything she is capable of doing now was an extremely hard work. She also showed numerous times that she can handle the pressure (winning her first senior WC, skating clean after seeing her team mate meltdown, constantly showing that she is now the best female figure skater despite people waiting for her to fall down). Not to mention just being female figure skater in Russia is an enormous pressure. One tiny mistake and you might no longer be a part of national team at international competitions.

A short test skates preview (next week already)
Medvedeva+Zagitova (Eteri), Radionova+Sotskova (CSKA), Pogorilaya, Tuktamysheva - that's the line-up for 2017-18 hunger games.
My view before the start that the weak links are: Maria, Liza, and, alas, Anna. But everything can change already during the test skates.
If Liza shows clean 3As in short and long programs she moves up to group A (big contenders) even if her combos are not ideal at this point.
If Elena does not convince that her troubles are over (shaky landings, moving combos after unsuccessful attempts) she goes to group B.
Zagitova's shape after the summer is the biggest question. If it is terrific I would agree with Averbukh: their rivalry with Medvedeva (who is presumably well) will be the main theme of the next season. If not I would not bet on her before she competes at GP.
Sotskova is a dark horse. I think with her delicate charisma she can only "feed" on others' mistakes. Just cannot imagine a breakthrough from her. Hope, I am wrong.
Anna. She has to be perfect all the time. Starting with test skates. She lacks political clout, her WC2017 was disastrous. If she is not 100% perfect on 3 or more occassions, no matter how good she can be, the FED is likely to decide that the risk of having her in the team is too high.
Evgenija, finally. I expect wonderful performance and outstanding programs. "The friends of Medvedeva" in order to not look completely ridiculous will have to invent something new rather than "she is skating the same stuff for the last 10 years".

I know its kinda shallow but Im actually very curious about Medvedeva's dresses for the season. Hers has always been a hit. The only thing that I want them to change is the length of her skirts. I always feel its too long.
BTW is Kurakova going to the Test Skate? I would love her to get the Host Pick for Rostelecom.

I'll be shallow with you as well. I love seeing what new costumes skaters will come up with for this season.

This is EXACTLY how I feel. It's kind of sad to me but, I have a feeling that even if Alena Leonova were to skate perfectly, she will not make the team in a field of ladies this deep. I have also worry about Pogo. She performs quite a bit like my all time fav, Maria Butyrskaya. When she's on, she's spectacular. When she's off, she can go way off. The young girl's are so talented that it will be hard for the veterans to make the team. When you add a rejuvenated Tuk, and Rad to the mix, it's going to a real battle at Nationals and I would love to have a ticket to see it all happen.....

Frankly speaking, she is even a blacker horse than Sotskova. I am not sure if she is in contention. But I will be glad if I am wrong if I see her in Sochi next week in terrific form.
