2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I like Fedichkina a lot, but with some of the stuff that other young Russians are putting out there, I'm not sure she is the best choice for the spot.

Kostornaya is so damn impressive. She's got the jumps but is also very elegant and carries herself so well. On a shallow note, I love the dress in the SP. Very classy.
 
Wow, I really like Kostornaya, I don't agree that she is copy of Evgenia at all. I just love how fluid and light her skating is and I agree with oleada, she's very elegant and she looks confident out there. She has nice jumps and spins but how much I will never be fan of backloading, she really pulled it off in both SP and free. I think her biggest strength is that she gives it all when it comes to choreography, so detailed and patient about everything. Also she has some beautiful hand movements and her execution of transitions (and transitions themselves, that Ina Bauer in free) really, really impressed me. I wish she could be more expressive though, she has the same expression through the whole programs and she looks down a lot. But I believe these things come with experience and age, I hope she will work on it. I really enjoyed both programs, she's now one of my favorite juniors and probably my favorite Eteri junior :laugh::luv17:

Yes, all 15 will skate equally clean and make it to GPF, Worlds etc. and share the 1st place

I understand what you are saying. I like Evgenia and most of Eteri's girls, but it's nice to have some variety, and give skaters from other schools a chance. And Kostornaya is obviously talented, but I was bored by the elevator muzak in both programs. Many complain that Evgenia uses too similar music in her competitive programs - I would also like to see her take on something more dynamic. Kostornaya may impress me more in the future, but it wasn't a "wow" for me like watching Trusova. As far as Eteri's current girls, my favorites by far are Evgenia (the OG), Polina, and Sasha Trusova. Alina & Anna S. are also very good, but I'm not quite as invested in them yet. The rest are talented, just not my cup of tea right now.
 
It's not Eteri's fault that skaters from the other schools can't show their best. Two years ago I thought that Mishin's skaters will take a lead. But... Sigh. Only hopes for Sonya. And on the contrary, I'm glad that Eteri took Tarakanova and Kostornaya. They might continue to fall if they stayed with their previous coaches. But she took also their personalities - yes, why it's necessary to change their unique style, I don't know. At least some parts of the previous style they kept in Alena's SP... Now I hope Nastya's SP won't be worse than her amazing previous one from the last season.
 
Tarakanova is pretty impressive, and quite different from other Eteri's girls. She has a very dramatic music, and her performance matched that. When her final spin accelerated with the music, I was totally wowed.

Gubanova looks like an glamours lady in old Hollywood films, but her jumps:( The height of her jumps are fine, but the way she throws herself into the jumps are not good. If she does not correct her technique, single ladies skating is not the field to stay for her.
 
Like it or not, Eteri's students seem to be more consistent among other skaters. Perhaps, that "sparring partner" method of training makes them used to competitive atmosphere.

The point is that her girls are sure, that their sparring partners represent the most serious threat to their victory in international competitions.
Eteri said that Zagi is partner to Med. And some elements she does better. Imagine her confidence boost at that moment. She almost beat reigning world champion. And when Zagi will face Gracie (for example), she won't be nervous.
