Frankly speaking, at this stage big questions are not about Gubanova but about Stasya Konstantinova who is already 17. Gubanova can rest, she can withdraw from the competitions this season to adjust jumps to her changed body and start fresh when she is ready: she is just 14! Her artistry and unique style won't go away.

With Stasya it's different - she is competing with the girls who are 4 years younger, who skate clean programs and jump quads. Doing her usual self this season will mean very big question marks about her competitive career in the future. If she is a late bloomer, the time has come for her to bloom. Now or never - that's what I think. She could be successful in the past, even in the recent past as she is a special skater with a big presence on ice. And skaters in the past could reach any heights being inconsistent. Not anymore - consistently skating clean - that's the name of the today's game in the ladies' figure skating before they will master quads.

I think she can get away with not always being 100% clean, but she needs to start skating well at international events. There are still very few totally consistent skaters her age, and I don't think her task this season is to beat Trusova. Her main competition is girls who are also senior eligible next season - of the new ones that is Guliakova and Panenkova. And the main thing is to get a high SB for moving to seniors.

I don't think she should change the coach because part of the reason why she is so lovely to watch is the fact that her coach didn't compromise on her artistry.

Alina joined her basically in the middle of puberty and she got through major injury. Now she is favourite to be a part of Russian olympic team. Medvedeva also survived puberty under Eteri.

Anastasia doesn't have problem with edge of lutz/flip or height of jumps. Axis seems to be a problem

Even if we decide that Alina has already gone through puberty, she is still small and light. Medvedeva is also very thin. Gubanova is of a quite different build.

All in all the future for Russian juniors never looked brighter. Rika Kihira is the threat and she might even win both JGPF and JWC if she consistently lands fully rotated 3As and delivers all the planned jump content. But the first "but" is "if". We shall see what she is capable of quite soon. The second "but" is Trusova who can improve. If she lands fully rotated 4S and builds up her pcs she will be quite competitive with Rika with the end-year target score close to 210.

What is more interesting is the situation with seniors. I shall see test skates this week already. And I hope it will become more clear what to expect down the road. Kudos to Liza proved to be premature. She did not land 3A as was initially reported. And it makes sense. Otherwise, how would she lose to Gubanova? If she does not show it in Sochi I shall revert to my initial placing her in the second tier together with Alena and Sima (Stasya stays junior).

Of course, the biggest thing is to see in what shape Evgenia and Alina are. If they come strong and confident the ladies from other countries other than Satoko will have to learn to skate consistently if they want to challenge them. If not, the season might be very nervous. Before the skating has started Medvedeva looks invulnerable. But a lot could have changed over the summer. If she has a delayed puberty unlike Gubanova she might pay the dues at the worst possible time during the Olympic season. I remember that before the 2015-16 season some said that after Liza started to land 3As no one will come close to her. Others said: "no way - Mao is back. This field is like kids' playground for her". Both were completely wrong.

I am excited to see Russian senior skaters for the first time this season.

Can someone please explain the Sarabande Suite program of Tarankova's? I don't know if it's supposed to be agony, a religious awakening, or what. The music is pretty great and I hope she'll grow into the program, even if it is busy-busy with transitions.

T-Kova would be incorrect, her name is Tarakanova. But T-Nova has a nice sound, i think. Or how about -Kanova? Would make remembering the full name easier.

speaking of the next jgp event.. it's kinda unpredictable for me and a lot depends on how Kihira will land her jumps.

how panenkova can not to skate clean? she is the most consistent girl in our part of the galaxy. all of her jumps in the last season (in 10 or so competitions) were with positive goes, no falls, no step-outs no underrotations whatsoever.
even evgenia in her best season (2014-2015), when she had no falls, had a step-out in czech jgp, i believe, and couple of urs here and there.
