LOL, Osmond does not have anywhere close to 300 points over Pogorilaya in their meetings last season, what?!? Osmond did better than Pogorilaya in one competition last season - Worlds (you will also try to say Finlandia, but neither were good there and the result could have gone either way). Pogorilaya did better the entire Grand Prix season, better at her Nationals (regardless of their placements in each country - just talking purely about the performances), and better at Europeans as compared to Osmond's 4CC.
 
We already saw Zagitova and Wakaba. Today Karen Chen and Marin. Next week we shall see Medvedeva and Mai. And we shall see the Canadians as well. Then it will be first data points to speculate how the top will look like this season. Namely if the worlds were one time feat for the Canadians or they have come to stay. Of course, there are 3 big question marks: Anna, Ashley, and Satoko. At this stage I don't think Radionova, Sotskova, Tsurskaya, and Tuktamysheva are big podium threats.

Oh, you're just talking about the irrelevant ISU world standing point thing. Not the actual points they earned in their head to head match ups, which is what it sounded like you said and what I responded to.

I did not bring up the subject of rankings, tjb did. I was responded to his reference of ISU rankings, where he bragged about the "irrelevant" ISU world standings as you state, and I brought it to his attention, that he should take another look, as KO had a better season in terms of ISU point totals than AP, based on their formula.

But hey, heaven forbid we have an actual discussion in this Thread based on facts, for as you pointed out BOP, the facts are "irrelevant".
 
I'm not trying to be mean or anti-Russian, I just have an honest question: Am I missing something that so many other people see in Alina Zagitova? Is she really good at SS and choreography, and I'm just ignorant and can't see it? Lots of fans love this girl. When I watch her skate, I see difficult transitions, very choppy skating, no flow, and amazing jumps with really nice rippon features (she does that well).
So, to all the Zagitova fans out there, can u explain (in a nice way) why u believe she deserves 8s and 9s in pcs? I really would like to know. NOT so I can get on this forum and slam a 15-year-old girl. I just want to read others' opinions.
 
Well, I for one like her originality, as no one's really explored program layout for the FS before her. I also love her jumps, obviously. I think she has a lot of choreography that makes it harder to see the flow but I see a lot of dedication to said choreo, and I think she's trying not to make it look choppy. I think she has good SS, as demonstrated in the step sequence, and also, you need a pretty good level of SS to keep the audience engrossed during the first two minutes if you're backloading the whole program, and I at least have always been engrossed by her. Lastly, I see commitment to and understanding of her music, something which is quite rare for a 15 year old. Rather than some new seniors who don't really draw you in to their performance (not naming names here) I actually think that she's a pretty good performer. That's just my opinion though. :biggrin:

Poor Ivett is out due to injury. She broke her leg. :(

To whom will go her spot? In the last season was the same situation, and Galustyan got the spot. And still a mystery Russian girl isn't announced. Btw, except Konstantinova, Fedechhkina and Sakhanovich, there also can skate Panenkova. Why not? But it's all will depend on Konstantiova's results. To me, Panenkova is the best option. But let's wait JGP in Belarus.

is it still legal for 14 yo girl to compete at senior GP? i was thinking that they changed an age limit for GP as well. since the last 14 yo girl i've seen competing at senior GP was radionova.

You can't do both the junior and senior grand prix... so only Serafima is an option of those you've listed.

And going on a tangent, I'm unsure if those skaters who have been listed as subs in a junior grand prix are able to instead skate in the senior grand prix if they don't actually skate. If they're not able to skate then that's a rule Russia should definitely look into getting changed.
 
Alina had fantastic jumps and good skating skills for someone just out of Juniors- I don't think she's on par with Medvedeva quite yet. So I don't think she deserves 9's, but I give credit where credit is due. Count me as one who found her overhyped over the summer but I'm now very intrigued by her and what she'll do this season.

I am a terrible American fan, my favorite ladies are all Russian and Japanese (+Karen Chen). 😎

So, no even Stasya or Sonya? What a pity. There also ABBA girl, who always skates clean, but has low PCS. Her name is Valeria Mikhailova.

I guess there is problem not in Alina's skating, but in the system. Alina's team bet on maximum difficulty. Because of that she can't fly on the ice, she is constrained by transitions. So for fan's eyes it could not look like 9-10, but for judges it looks like this. I expect big changes from ISU after Olympics. They can limit tanos/ripons, and also, like in the pair skating after Sochi, remove bonus for the jumps in the second half, or limit it. But... This won't help to stop Russian ladies anyway. :)
 
Maybe in the last season Galustyan was higher in the rankings and that's why she got a spot? Lower than Ivett are Soyoun PARK, Yuna SHIRAIWA, Angelina KUCHVALSKA. Both Soyoun and Yuna have their spots. So Kuchvalska should replace Ivett, if choice based on the world standings.
 
yeah, people who are saying that zagitova and medvedeva are "slow" skaters obviously never seen them in their younger years, when they skated an ordinary not backloaded programs.
the knowledge of skating is so deep in here that people are really expecting from skater to rush around the ice with a fully backloaded program.

And rush around doing transitions, for example
Its quite common to compare someone with a very complex program vs someone who only does crossovers, and say first one is slow.
