2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Anna Scherbakova is a amazing talent for sure. She seems to have that inner strength in her tiny little body. But missing JGP is not good, since she missed the experience to skate internationally. Would she be sent to JW if she ends up on the podium at Russian junior nationals this year?

To ends up on the podium at the juniors she needs a quad. If she will do two quads (unlike Sasha, her quad looks very solid) then she will beat everyone. Same will be at worlds. What's the point of leaving this girl at home, which can do 4T-3T and 4T in the free program? Even without international experience with those quads she will beat everyone at JW with the big gap.

Is the trio of Trusova, Tarakanova, and Anna the wonder babies of Eteri or are there even more hyped ones who are younger than them?

Now in group at Eteri practically all color of junior ladies skating in Russia . It is interesting, that each of these strong juniors, reminds other strong junior from the previous generation.

Anna Scherbakova - reminds me to Evgenia Medvedeva.
Alexandra Trusova - Alexandra Proklova.
Alyona Kostornaya - Adelina Sotnikova.
Darya Panenkova - Elizabeth Tuktamysheva.
Anastasia Tarakanova - Anna Pogorilaya.

Uh, she does not "need a quad" to be on the podium. If she skates clean she'd be the highest scoring Russian junior skater, without quads.

It's hard to imagine her being any worse than third in any case, unless she really makes tons of mistakes.

I put it not quite correctly, if she will be clean without quad she could be on the podium. But win without quad if Trusova will jump 4S<, plus clean Gubanova and Tarakanova - no way. Also, it will be one of the first events after her injury.

Here. The Junior Nationals (B): http://www.fsrussia.ru/results/1617/specprogramma1617/index.htm

She even lost to Trusova in PCS for the SP. In the free skate she was ahead of Sasha by 2 points in PCS. But Sasha there earned only 66 points for the TES, seems like something didn't work. So clean Sasha + 4S< definitely will be ahead of Anna. Clean Gubanova and Tarakanova (if Tarakanova was able to do it even with Panova) will be ahead of Anna. So here is it. Alena Kostornaya also will pretend for the medals. Her spins are better than Anna's or Sasha's, she must receive more GOE on it.

Nastya is struggles with jumps and puberty, it will be difficult for her to fight. Status of Nastya T and Alena is unknown, because it's hard to predict, judging by only one event. (a JGP stage and Open Moscow cup)

However, I expect at least one 4T from Anna, but don't know how difficult for her it will be to jump after an injury.

I was thinking about Olympic Team event, because Russian ladies - are the only hope there, and chances to win the gold medals are very low for Russia. This is the sad part - when you will lose because of the others.

I'ts hard to make any predictions until we know who will take part from each country. Too many unknown variables.

To be perfectly honest, at first, I couldn't believe that quad hype at all.
When Tarasova mentioned Eteri has a quad girl, I thought old lady was tripping  , when Zagitova said in interview about trying to catch up with 'younger girls' technically, I rolled my eyes how she's trying to be cute and humble too hard.
I was watching the April 'news' with face like this:

Anna's has good flexibility, but she travels a lot quite often, I wonder why?

We already know who will take part from each country, except, maybe... Russia. Team Canada is strong as never before. So Osmond could be like Lip - the Olympic Champion in the team event, because of Russian men, Russian ice dance and Russian pairs. Once Averbukh said that it's killing the sport, and I agree with him here. Olympic gold medal should be one and only for the personal competitions. "Olympic champion in the team event" - kind of blah.

Her flexability is good. But that's not about it. For example, many Japanese girls have bad flexability, but their spins are very good, and sooo fast. It's just one of the weaknesses of Eteri's school. Lip already had her incredible spins before moving to Eteri, same with Kostornaya. I wonder, may be you just can't be the best in everything? Jumps, skating skills, spins... Just imagine: Gubanova's skating skills and artistry, Lip's and Lozko's spins, Tuktamysheva's jumps, and Medvedeva's consistency. This skater will be the real killer.

Wait... Have I missed it? So where can I find this information? I thought that nothing has been decided yet.

I meant, your "we don't know yet" - how so? It could be some mysterious skaters from other countries? It's obvious who will compete. I would say too obvious.

1,700 post. :dance3:

I hope Patrick and Alina are not taking part in the team competitions. I want them fresh for the singles events.

They will be fresh enough. :) As I remember, team event begins two weeks before the main event. For example, Grand-Prix Final and Russian Nationals have almost the same gap (10-15 days).
