2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Maria's question is still on the table. Considering her growth, her jumps are superb: very big height and clean landing on them. Also, Buyanova's skating skills are very nice. But she lack of stamina, sometimes URs on her combos and axels, and at least two of her spins won't get big GOE.

By the way, the tech panel and judges were really ridiculous, at clean and gorgeous 3Lz+3T she got < on 3Lz and -0.10 GOE. Also, she got 3F<+1Lo+3S but there was underrotated 3S, flip maybe but really barely. It should be 3F+1Lo+3S<.

Really pathetic event. Looking forward for the Russian Cup with amazing ladies' field, I'm sure that would be much better than this.

They missed some URs for Sotskova, but all the ones that were marked UR actually were UR, I checked them frame by frame. Her first 2A in the combo also was UR and the second one actually was a << so they were lenient with it by only marking it UR.

This is the first lutz, it's pretty clear: https://i.imgur.com/7g8iYSu.png

Is Maria planning on straightening her arm in her tano jumps as the season progresses? Aesthetically, her air position is much less attractive than a jump performed regularly.

I feel for Anna

Me too. I hope she takes care of herself and doesn't compete in the next GP if she is still injured. She's had disastrous GP events before and made the Russian team by performing well at Nationals, so hopefully that happens for her again.

Yeah well... That's why I hope Polina will take the third spot. I guess all these Maria's URs won't be called at Russian Nationals. If she got 137 points for the free skate at B event with one < on 2A, then at Russian Nationals it will be around 147-149 points (probably the same only one UR on 2A, big GOE on the spins and PCS +5-8). Buyanova will get what she wants - the girl at the Olympics, but at the Olympics with all those URs Sotskova definitely will be out of the top 10.

Eteri is also making a name for herself, so I hope that Polina can do the same at NHK, SA, nationals, and hopefully the GPF...

None of this is accurate. That picture you show of the lutz doesn't say anything, since everything is in relation to where the jump started. She does a proper outside edge lutz takeoff, the jump just doesn't takeoff straight backwards from the direction she was originally skating, it curves the opposite direction. That picture right there is within the limit of a lutz that curves at least 1/8 of a turn in the opposing direction during the takeoff. I probably wouldn't even consider that as her landing point anyway, I think only the top of her toepick is starting to touch the ice right here (bad quality picture though), so her landing is later than this point you've chosen.

I'm guessing the Russian Olympic team is going to be: Medvedeva, Zagitova and Sotskova.

I too hope she loses the tanos and rippons. She doesn't need them. She's so tall and her jumps were already so elegant.

Radionova is out based on her performance thus far this season.

Still have my hopes for Pogorilaya.

Radinova is not out yet. She didn’t have a meltdown. She messed up one jump in her FS, but otherwise she skated clean, and her landings are better than in her past two years. As long as she does a few more competitions before the nationals and get stronger result at each of them, to show that her new coaching situation improved her skating, she will be fine.

Sotskova has struggled with consistency for the past two years, and underrotations seems an issue too, so I wouldn’t celebrate yet if I was her.

I don't see much hope for Radionova to be honest. But I can see Tsurskaya being able to capture the spot if she's on her game. At her best and skating clean, she can achieve a better skate than Sotskova.

Also there is Konstantinova. Her TES with popped jump and bad landing on 2A is higher than Sotskova's with URs. And she is from St. Pete with frequently inflated scores at home events. But I doubt that she'll get the same PCS as Sotskova with Buyanova's inflation.

And I'm still wondering why Kurakova is skating as junior, if even Gubanova and Gulyakova are skating as seniors.

What about Liza Tuk?

Hahaaa, it's strange how you think they'll give to Konstantinova an Olympic spot, when she even didn't get a second JGP event, not talking about a GP competition.
I'd say that Sostkova has the best chances of making the team comparing to others (Anna, Elena, Liza, Polina and Konstantinova)

What about Liza Tuk?

She is suffering because of her textbook technique (same situation with Karen Chen), but Tukt even never got high PCS. For her best FS for whole her career at Euro 2015, she got 68.23 PCS for the clean and flawless skating. And look at Osmond's PCS now at Skate Canada with awful skating.

Osmond is the Canadian No 1 right now, this explains the big PCS.. we are talking about the third Russian now.

Slow down. Tomorrow will start Russian Cup with Polina as highlight along with Alenka , Angel and Stanislava. So let's wait and see.
