2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

Hahaaa, it's strange how you think they'll give to Konstantinova an Olympic spot, when she even didn't get a second JGP event, not talking about a GP competition.
I'd say that Sostkova has the best chances of making the team comparing to others (Anna, Elena, Liza, Polina and Konstantinova)

Konstantinova is nowhere near in my opinion. What has she proven at the senior level? To me she's a junior skater through and through. She'd need to go on an absolute tear.

Slow down. Tomorrow will start Russian Cup with Polina as highlight along with Alenka , Angel and Stanislava. So let's wait and see.

Tomorrow? The heck? I thought it was today.

Why on earth are ladies soooo late?

Osmond is the Canadian No 1 right now, this explains the big PCS.. we are talking about the third Russian now.

I explain to you why Tukt has no chance. Even if she will land 3A in the free program, it's very doubtful that she will land other jumps, like lutz or 3T+3T combo. Also she won't get big PCS.

None of this is accurate. That picture you show of the lutz doesn't say anything, since everything is in relation to where the jump started. She does a proper outside edge lutz takeoff, the jump just doesn't takeoff straight backwards from the direction she was originally skating, it curves the opposite direction. That picture right there is within the limit of a lutz that curves at least 1/8 of a turn in the opposing direction during the takeoff. I probably wouldn't even consider that as her landing point anyway, I think only the top of her toepick is starting to touch the ice right here (bad quality picture though), so her landing is later than this point you've chosen.

The actual landing(in case that one doesn't count in your opinion) isn't in the frames I have. The next frame is well past landing. And there it's around 90 degrees.

Apart from what else you're saying, I'm not even sure what you're trying to say here and don't know how I'm supposed to answer except "Yes, I know, I know, I know and I know".

I hope you at least went through the slow-mo frame by frame and saw how the landing happened.

Moreover, tomorrow also will be kindergarten's event with very young superstars: Sofia Akatieva and Sofia Samodelkina. And there also will be a live stream at this channel. What a busy figure skating day with the beauty on the ice!

I'm guessing the Russian Olympic team is going to be: Medvedeva, Zagitova and Sotskova.

I too hope she loses the tanos and rippons. She doesn't need them. She's so tall and her jumps were already so elegant.

Right now that's what i'm hoping. Getting the silver in Canada where everyone was screwed except Kaetlyn Osmond is a statement.

I think the tanos will help her in the future: she doesn't have lots of transitions for some of these jumps, so having the arm variation can help her to get higher GOEs: granted it didn't work here, but at Skate Canada they would have not given her any reward anyway, so it will be interesting to see her scores at Trophée de France.

Sotskova looks stronger than Tsurskaya now, and Radionova is still there if she wins Cup of China (very unlikely though)

Radionova is out based on her performance thus far this season.

Still have my hopes for Pogorilaya.

I agree that Radionova is not looking the best, but when she's out based on her performances thus far, then Pogorilaya is super out.

I guess first we have to see how GP judges score Polina T. then we'll know who has a higher chance of that third spot, her or Sotskova. Also, it will be interesting to see how they score Zagitova, hopefully it won't be too low because she's new.

Skate Canada was quite challenging and Maria did quite well. I think she will most likely get the 3rd spot. She doesn't have a wow factor but she seems to be reliable. If there was someone else less reliable but more aggressive (consistent Pogorilaya) Federation might consider taking a chance but Anna's unfortunate injuries, Elena's techinacal problems and inconsistencies of the rest of the girls make it harder to pick one of them even to bet on.

Zagi has two hard GP events, and after seeing what happened with Marin's PCS .... it will be harsh... hopefully she'll be absolutely clean to have a chance for the final.

90% is about who'll get the third spot, 10% is about else...
It's more a competion with predictions now than a thread

Again wrong. Marin has not so many difficult transitions as Alina. So Alina's PCS will be high enough anyway.

Also, I noticed you somehow mentioned commercial event AS EXAMPLE of Mai's power. It's totally wrong and just ridiculous. There are her real scores at B event. There are Marin's scores at B event, and there are scores of Alina and Wakaba.

I agree with puremagic. Moreover, Alina has a much more difficult free program than Marin, and a more difficult short program as well. And she is very consistent.

We will see... the fact is that usually new comers to GP events don't get a lot of love in terms of PCS.
Even though Marin doesn't have so difficult transitions, she has other pluses, such as skating skills, good performance etc. In my opinion she was underscored in PCS at Skate Canada.
I do think Mai could be a challenge this season. She is usually consistent, has nice flow and if she is seen as Japan no 1 will get a boost in PCS.
And Alina has hard GPS events, this is a fact: she'll meet Mai, Wakaba, Marin, Gabby, Liza and Lena in China, and in France Osmond, Mai again, Sostkova and Liza. The most dangerous for her are Mai and Osmond, of course.

On the contrary, it's much better to meet your main rivals early in the season, than will face them just at Olympics. Will be better if Alina will beat them all at GP and GPF, to be a main favorite at the Olympics along with Evgenia.

I don't compare Alina's programs and skating with Marin's.
Just saying that Marin was underscored in PCS at Skate Canada (my opinion) and that usually new comers to GP circuit don't get from the very beginning high PCS scores.
The reasons of Marin's underscoring could be multiple, though: the location of the event, she skating first in the Free, the mistakes in the short ....
I would like to be wrong, but I don't expect high PCS for Alina. But I hope she'll cope with this very well.

Sadly, I think you're right... But I am hopeful that her ridiculously high TES (nearly 80 in the free! at a CS!) will keep her ahead of those skaters who get gifted with PCS, even if she is robbed.

I didn't say it's better or worse  (to meet the main rivals early in the season). Again it depends on a lot of factors.
But I agree that it will be excellent if Alina beats them now and then

It depends a little. Medvedeva got a pretty high score in her first grand prix event all things considered.

A lot of it really has to do with junior skaters genuinely being juniorish skaters and hence not really getting all that highly rewarded in PCS. The PCS evaluation as a whole seems to completely change when going from juniors to seniors and the range becomes much larger. It can work both ways.

Personally, I don't see Zagitova scoring that highly in PCS, either. But she has some time to increase her standing.
