2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

In the step sequence, I believe they're called twists(not fully familiar with English terms...)? Anyway, the rapid twirls... She actually does them both clockwise and counterclockwise, which would be a requirement for lvl 4 steps, right? I RARELY see any junior skaters, even top ones, doing them both clockwise and counterclockwise and of course, Akatieva for instance doesn't do that either.

In any case, the jumps are nice but that's not what I got blown away by.

Close! They are called twizzles...

Konstantinova over Tsurskaya, even? If we're looking for things like jumps that make you wow(Might be the quality about Konstantinova that most would first think of), isn't Tsurskaya a clearly superior choice anyway?

Eh. The only problem with Konstantinova is the fact that she always falls on a program, but regarding jumps she should never lose to Tsurskaya. Plus she has more speed and a lot more versatility on the ice. But YMMV. Also, I don't think Konstantinova is overscored, she has no backing to be - unless Chebotareva suddenly became a relevant name, but compared to Eteri she's close to a nobody.

And Gubanova scores over Konstantinova... not going to lie, I'm a bit sad about that.

Wonderful job Polina!

Beautiful, flawless and mesmerizing skating vs. sloppy and fast skating with ugly posture + fall + popped jump = in PCS 62.72 vs. 64.48 that's what you should know about russian judging, absolutely ridiculus.

That's a contradiction right there, mind you.

Also, she completely lacks natural musicality. Polina isn't very great in terms of that but still slightly stronger in that regard.

A clean skate scores over a program with a pop and a fall. How unfortunate.

Luckily, unfair score pumping can only get you so far.

Polina's FP is really bad. Her skating is beautiful but with such a program they're going to the Olympics? Really? Even juniors from Eteri's group have much better programs. :disapp:

How that's a contradiction? Did you watch her SP - where was the fall?

Konstantinova popped the loop and fell on the flip. Not much to do about that.

All right I can see that.
But everybody says that Konstantinova was overscored in PCS compared to Gubanova and I can't understand that at all. Stasya made mistakes and she was scored lower than she usually is. To me, Nastya's skating is bland and boring and looks like she's told what to do to make it look artistic and angelic. Her technique also looks... off to me and I don't understand why she gets the GOE that she does. So there, that's my unpopular opinion.

I think it just needs more attention by the coaches. Her skating is beautiful and she makes it look gorgeous. Heck, she could make anything look gorgeous, and I think she can indeed make it to the Olympics with this program.

The sound was awful. Let's wait for her senior debut at GP

Did you see that 3z-3t-2t she launched? She was dropping GOE bombs right there 💥

I know what you mean about not liking a skaters style. I struggle with Zhenia’s overwrought theatrics but I still find ways to root her on and often find myself defending her against people that attack everything she does. I love watching her slay in the WC best because you can feel people wanting her to fail and she instead slays. Sometimes it’s just fun being a figure skating fan. There really is good in most all of the skaters.

Is she fully recovered from the injury?

Because she ditched the i-spin, the biellmann, she is very cautious on the stars into the flying camel, and the 3t on the 2a-3t looks ur to me.

The program is the kind of generic stuffs you give to a skater you don't care anymore (remember Yulia's Leningrad FS?), and it would be a shame because of her jumps are still stunning. Her Lutz is fantastic.

She delivered here good performances so i hope to see everytime a little step forward.

Well, she surely had less time to train, and more things to recover after injury. Keep in mind that she didnt just take a small vacation break, she was injured and needed to get back on track. I suppose the first focus was on jumps and consistency, to work on the artistic aspects of the program later.
Pretty sure that once this program gains more mileage, it will look way better.

Seeing a skater like Polina getting dumped on with lackluster programs while she's trying to overcome her struggles, and in such an important year, makes me :noshake:

I love Polina's SP but her FS is so meh :( Its such a shame because shes so expressive and I just wish they made for her better and more exciting programs for the most important season. Her double axel is fantastic though. One of the best.
