Good? I found her spark missing. She got it done, but didn’t put much of herself into it. Like if she was fighting because it is expected from her, rathr than because she wants it herself.

Maybe since they seem to hate Alina’s full 0/7 backloading, they will appreciate Evgenia’s 2/5 layout more. Those comments are still very rude about using the first half of Alina’s program to use as a bathroom break!

And after that, there also was quite a bunch of ironic comments, implications that maybe judges arent judging properly and so on >.>
David Pelletier was one of them and was quite vocal and also Kurt Browning. Can someone please tell me if Alina's name was being pronounced correctly or is it Za-gee-tova like the were saying on the Olympic Channel.
Yes they are trash as commentators.
This season they want to reach a new level of mediocrity at each event, and they are on a good track so far.

I thought that sounded like David but, I was hoping he would have shown more class. Why didn't he explain that Alina was following the rules and maximizing her scoring potential by placing the majority of her difficult jumps during the bonus. He could have mentioned to the audience that it is much more difficult to land her difficult combo's during the second half of her program. They both know about Stamina and your muscles are burning by the time you get to the second half an LP. When they talk this way, they diminish her accomplishment and that's not what they should doing. She was basically undefeated as Junior and there's a chance she will be on the Podium in Korea. They should be building on that hype.....

Apropos Liza. It was the first time in over 2 years (I think) that she attempted the 3A in competition - they probably wanted a layout that she could skate clean with that. As for being "tight" - again, see above. And didn't people say she was singing along while skating? How is that not putting anything of herself into her skating? Also, she's said in interviews that she can't do the 3A unless she is optimal physical shape. I somehow don't think anyone could force her to do it, and have her succeed even remotely.

She actually skated the LP better here WITH a 3A than she did at Lombardia and Finlandia without it.
People may not enjoy her skating, which is fine - each to their own. But I don't know how anyone thinks they know Liza well enough to say that she "doesn't want it", and is "being forced into it".
ETA - And yes, I know comparing scores over different competitions is iffy at best, but still:
Masha: 192.52 (Skate Canada)
Liza: 196.68 (Cup of China)
If the Rus fed looks to placement only, and totally disregard scores, then they are fools. Which, of course, they might be. I don't pretend to know.

CoC was one amazing tourney - I think 7 of 7 top ladies should be happy with how they skated, amongst them Russians:
- Radionova surprised me with cleaner free skate combo, visibly better shape and less-vulgar, elegant femininity. She was a bit propped with some 'invisible' URs and overblown PCS, but she helped judges by stepping her game up.
- Tuktamysheva's jumps were impressive, just like in test skates or better, she's going up and hopefully improves her programs to cover her actual skating deficiencies. I feel like stronger, expansive and vivid music might help her a lot.
- Zagitova with wonderful performance (still prefer her last Nats LP), collecting another win in her way on Olympic podium, gaining experience, getting stronger mentally and building reputation. Are you watching Zhenya?
By the way, Canadian and Japanese feds should hire army of trolls to comment and vote in polls like this one - I can really imagine Russian media firing up this discussion to some serious level at which problems inside the group might appear.
I hope they won't go this way and that Eteri controls group relations with media better than 4 years ago in Julia's case. :thumbsup:

Alina's jumps and spins are amazing. So are her transitions. I personally hate Don Quixote, no matter who skates to it. Anyway.
All that said...I don't personally want to see a skater win OGM with a junior-level program. The difficulty of her program is great, and I love her elements, but I think the program lacks a story, or depth, or changes of emotion. On an emotional level, it feels a step or below Tara's 1998 LP.
I love Evgenia's everything, but her elements are of admittedly lower quality than Alina's. I'm not sure how to feel.
Seems like 3rd spot COULD very well be Elena versus Maria. Depends on Polina - though I'm not sure how well Eteri (or any coach) could handle 3 ladies vying for OGM. I'm shocked to see Elena performing so well here, but she is hungry. I've always loved her grit. But I also love Maria's grace. And Polina's skating overall. Liza still COULD play spoiler, but I am not counting on it, as much as I love her jumps. Anna is done in Rusfed's eyes, even though she's my fave.

I initially had Liza off my cards for the Olympics, however seeing that 3A really gave me hope. And I actually enjoyed both her programs this season. She just needs to stay consistent!

I don't understand people's dislike for a fully backloaded program, I really don't. In Alina's case, it matches the music and it is thrilling to watch. Would people prefer a program that is 7/0, because that is a lot more annoying IMO. Some people even say that they should make rules to restrict this. That is, restrict the skater from getting more points, which makes absolutely no sense to me. AND it's not easy, everyone would do it if it was, it is not because they care about the "artistic" construction of the program.

It's funny they hated it so much, because they did mention at one point that programs used to all mainly be front loaded. It's like they didn't even recognise their own hypocrisy on the topic...
Yes, plus could one of the 2A-3Ts become a 3A-2T (2 chances at it)?

There's no such thing as a 7/0 jump layout program, literally nobody has ever done that. I disagree about Zagitova's jumps also, the 3Lutz+3Loop and 2Axel+3Toe combos have nothing to do with the music. They are in that part of the program only to gain extra technical points. The program could most definitely be constructed better.
