Well put! Especially the bolded is pretty difficult to truly explain but this makes a lot of sense. Very engaged yet still doesn't give off the impression that she's force feeding you some very deliberate performing, rather leaving more to your own imagination and impressions - perhaps?

And yes, it of course really helps that she's very pretty - Actually her and Shcherbakova are in a class of their own for me in this regard(After Lipnitskaya's retirement).
 
Russian National Championship is coming. There are only 10 days left. Hell, time goes so fast. Seems like yesterday were Russian Test Skates, and now this...

I guess Zhenya will WD from nationals, because it does not make sense to WD from GPF and in two weeks compete again.

About Alina there is no questions. But about the others girls it's quite interesting:

Alena as a senior got 215 points overall at Russian Cup stage, but 5 points she got for the bonuses for her spins. So her clear result 210 points. She got the same PCS as a junior in the short program, but in the free program got +4 boost for being a senior, and instead of 60 (as at JGPF) got 64 PC scores. Will be interesting to see her scores as a senior now.

Maria got very solid scores at GPF, but still her PCS there were weak. At Russian Nationals I expect boost her PCS least +5 points. Maybe even more. Also more GOE for weak spins. Her potential result for the free skate instead of 142-144 will be about 147-149 points. So overall 220+points.

Polina probably will get the same scores as at NHK Trophy, maybe a bit higher, but that's all. If she'll be clean, of course. 210-215 points.

Radio - about 68-72 for the short program, and 135-139 for the free program. 200-215 points.

Sofia Samodurova - very funny case, she also got over 200 points at Russian Cup stage. But this was total overscoring. She got such crazy scores because she is a Champion of two JGP stages. But really that was very crazy.

I don't love Kostornaya.
She's elegant and sophisticated, but her posture (short neck) and feet positioning needs improvement, before I'll consider joining the love fest.

Ah, good that you brought this up.

The most interesting highlight there is probably София Дзепка - Sofia Dzepka(b. August 7 2009) who is looking like the most talented Russian ladies' skater... ever? Not to try to overhype a 8-year-old too much or anything(bad habit) but at least she was ridiculously good last season 2 levels above her age group and this season as a 2009-2010 age group she's in sports 2(which is traditionally for the 2007-2008 age group and is actually almost Novice level, they even have a step sequence). Absolutely super skating skills, actual entries and exits for jumps, difficult steps etc. as a 7-year-old. What kind of a step sequence can she do at 8 years of age?


But of course, all the other notables should be there also.

I literally saw her for the first time at JGPF and what grabbed my attention was how balanced the visual created is with projection/overall expression - for me, Alena has very elegant, understated, 'blending-like' carriage and presence on ice which helps to make her skating and presentation looking easy and effortless. She's more of 'understated' kind of performer, working more 'inside' of the music than 'above' it from what I saw/felt, there's something about her performances overall that made me think about them more than just after she finished - she may be not the most 'exuberant' skater out there, but for me she sure leaves a lasting impression. It's a feeling of some 'non-deliberate quality', seamless projection of her skating that may be difficult to describe, ut is easy to translate into this feeling about her skating, how it is experienced.

Dzepka is really very talented. Just perfection. I also want to admit Polina Borovskih, she is just 6 yo! It's insane! And, of course, Uliana Vasilyeva. My top 3 so far.

Also, in 2 junior category, girls, I noticed incredible number of girls from CSOR CSKA them. SA Zhuka. Davydov's school. Will be very interesting to see them all.

Thing is, they all belong to the 2008-2009 age group rather than 2009-2010 like Dzepka. Skipping 2 age groups - I don't even think I've seen anyone doing that in the competitions I've gone through. And not just that, last season in junior 1(2 above her age group) she scored 46.46 points with 27.16 PCS(for the performance in your linked video) which would be an extremely high score even for a lady of that age group. Actually, I don't think I've seen anyone score higher than that without 2A at least in the protocols I've gone through this season. It's difficult to really know what to expect out of her 7 months after what she did there. 2A most likely, but would she actually have a triple jump at 8 years and 4 and a half months of age? I don't expect that to be the case but seeing her there competing at that level and actually doing a step sequence would be the thing I'm looking forward to the most. Fingers crossed that there will be streams.
