2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I like both girls unlike you but to me Gubanova is the essence of polished and nuanced skating. She is much more senior ready at this point...Alyona would do just fine as a senior but if she skates after the more well rounded skaters with a bigger presence it will be more and more noticeable.
I completely disagree!! Alena one of the most complete and well-rounded skaters we have ever seen so far. I would say she will be better than Evgenia.
jumps, amazing spins, amazing stsq's, polished, SS, TR, int, presence. even consistency!!! ( 7 out of 7 clean competitions so far in this season)
She just fit every possible criterias.

she'll be, don't worry. but that was obvious after gubanova's gliding on ice, and that she has more experience in such programs. that's why kostornaya looked quite weak on gubanova's background. but in 1-2 years if she will improve then she might be even better than gubanova. for now gubanova just have more mature skating and amazing gliding on the ice

Skating skills? I have been a big Gubanova fan since like 2013 or 2014 but I just dont see how hers could in any world be considered equal to Kostornaia's. Only Medvedeva has better SS out of the skaters who have competed this season internationally in my opinion.

Kostornaya has very good skating skills. My point is that Gubanova is more versatile and uses them more dynamically with a stronger command of the ice and in relation to her interpretation and feel. Watch and compare their variance in speed on the programs and use of power in the turns and especially related to the interpretation.

Trust me...there are areas where Alyona is better though so the difference we’re talking about is not that much.

Kostornaya doesnt really have an issue with presence despite what many seem to suggest even though her interpretation is less obvious. She has demonstrated the ability to catch people's attention.

This presence cant really be explained logically so if you dont see it... Nothing I can do. The general mannerisms, perhaps? But you want to look at her at all times.

Agree...it’s an emotional outburst thru physical expression but it can be subtle and reserved. . Watch Tarakanova’s in between stuff for examples. She explodes with energy and emotion to convey her character. I too love a subtle approach and find Kostornaya captivating...but I don’t think her presence matches her skill yet. It will though in time. She does have promising feel and I’m certain she’ll get there if she develops more dynamic programs. She clearly understands the music!

You think her performance capabilities are in line with seniors like Satoko? I think she has a ways to go before she achieve such well rounded performance. I do strongly agree that she is one of the brightest and most well rounded junior skaters we’ve ever seen!

You guys make any criticism of her sound way worse than what it is. She’s going to be just fine and become a champion of medals and hearts. I know I love her skating very much!

for me it was totally opposite. :scratch2:
I don't want to say bad things about Anastasia's SS and programs... I really don't want to. I used to like her a lot.
But Anastasia this season and Anastasia Last seasons... is 2 different skaters.
She've lost her speed. She looks very heavy on the ice. In the last season, she was much faster. She's got a significantly weaker presentation in this SP and FS than in 16/17, 15/16 seasons. Sorry but she doesn't skate to the music at all... Or maybe it's just terrible choreo, that doesn't show her strengths.... her arm movements in that program looked very empty and automatic.
I just can't watch Anastasia in this season... it's pain for my eyes. But I will never get tired to watch her last season's R&D.

Guys, it doesn’t matter if Gubanova has better SS, or if Kostornaya does, or Zagitova. It matters if the judges like u more than the others. PCS and GOE are reflective of how much they like u, not on whether u pump your back or lack posture or finesse or whatever! This is a sport of making yourself well-liked.

As to close the discussion, i think that what Yulia said about Alena is a valid opinion. It did not sound like envious or snarky at all, just a remark that the commentators thought was fair. We may agree, or we may disagree, but there is nothing wrong about it, and not a reason to randomly trash Lipnitskaya.

I found only all on ice. If you will find awards ceremony post it plz :)
Btw at 0:40 there was 4A attempt, also 3-3-3 attempt from Kostornaya and 3Lz-3T-3Lo attempt from Zagitova and clean 4T from Kolyada

OMG how even Mikhail did 4T with this hump :O Watch him doing 4Lz with broom at Europeans
