2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I watch FS live, on TV, on a computer monitor, on a 135 inch screen in my Sochi home theater. Once I watched young Gubanova on the laptop in Sochi's airport lounge. Yagudin who was returning after another Averbugh's show passed by and laughed with the words: "figure skating is everywhere now". My wife says it looks like a sickness. May be the cure is to apply to work for the Russian FED now that "I am open to new challenges"?

Don’t apply for work for Russian federation, apply for work at various rinks. At Tutberidze’s rink, or at Natalia Pavlova’s rink, at Velikov’s rink... I am sure that would much more informative, to figure out what needs to be done to get the results.

I would never pay 20e to watch a single event on the internet, when monthly Netflix fee is ~10e.
If I was a millionaire, I still wouldn't pay so much. It's a robbery. :whack:

I'd call it agony of capitalism. Unfortunately, it's the obvious ending. How long will it continue? Well, 200-300 years I guess, if we'll avoid the third world war, of course.

The renaissance of capitalism is amazing - you pull out all your ideas, some of them can really help to other people. You invent and create - they buy it and tell about it to the others. You provide good stuff - people are happy, and you're getting richer and richer, you're creating more and more, and then... Suddenly, you start to create nothing but average quality product, with a bit better characteristics and naming it like 5-6-7-8-9 ... 666. In other words, you start to make money to get another money. Not a real product. Every industry will end up like this, if there are no special blocks.

Just look around. Electronics, hardware, software... To buy a new processor on Coffee Lake, I have to throw into the trash my current motherboard which supports only Kaby-Lake. And it's not because it's old, it's pretty new, but because they in purpose do that. That's what robbery is. Look also at PC games' industry, this one also started to show an agony of capitalisms. Previously, you can buy for 20 dollars cool game with all stuff. Now they ask 60 dollars for the cropped game, and ask another 20-30 for the season pass, and even there some of DLC are not included. That's what robbery is.

But I agree, would be cool to have one year season pass for 20-50 dollars with all Russian national FS events.

Yeah, you need to organize something not related with officials. Maybe even some competitions? [emoji848] 'Cup of samkrut 2018'. Or school, 'Angels of samkrut'.

But seriously, all big steps start with small. You can really start with one competition for kids, and you can find some new relations there. And who knows how it will turn out?

I used to be an executive for more than the last 15 years, hence, I am not sure if my work at the rink will make more sense to Russian figure skating than my work as a bureaucrat (not sure if the latter would make sense as well but time will tell).

Ru Fed president Alexander Gorshkov said that it is almost no sign of Evgenia's injury now. He is sure we'll see real (competitive) Evgenia at European championships

Fantastic news, I'd certainly miss the opportunity to watch Zagitova defeating her great teammate for the first time.

you can't compare NBA/NHL to figure skating, absolutely different level of development, amount of sponsors, etc.
Exactly, every single one of those leagues worked hard in promoting their product in massmedia, starting with much lesser amounts of money. It's called popularizing and it certainly doesn't start with 20e per second tier tourney.

Now, this is broadcast I'd certainly paid 20e for: week of on-ice trainings of Tutberidze group!
Medvedeva vs Zagitova vs Tsurskaya vs Trusova vs Shcherbakova vs Kostornaya vs Tarakanova vs Panenkova vs Akatieva, going one after another with combos, quads, comments and bragging. Greatest fs show on earth! :yahoo:

Radionova told "Match TV", she'd the same injury as Zhenya twice and she skated with it successfully, then that girls like her, Tuk and Pogo have the advantage over younger ones like Zagitova, because they got through puberty physically and psychologically already and that Zhenya should participate in Euros for maintaining her competitiveness, but she thinks Alina will win it, because of greater content.
She was asked about her recent outcomes and Olympic disappointment, but didn't look sour or devastated and replied in very sensible and calm matter. Kudos to Lena.

Hmm, for a long time I've thought Radionova really has a problem with Zhenya for some reason, I wonder what it is. Other than that, that'd be quite a bold prediction...

It's not bold, it's observant.

Well, in a vacuum I mean. In the case of Radionova I personally assume it's got something to do with her dislike for Medvedeva.

In any case, whichever way you cut it it's bold to predict someone to defeat someone who's the world record holder and undefeated for the past 2 years.

Zagitova's technical material certainly is superior, though.

It's completely normal to expect Zagitova coming out on top with all her momentum in unblemished and unbeaten season, against injured, uncertain of her form Medvedeva. I'm pretty sure Zhenya will be more nervous than Alina in Moscow. All eyes and expectations will be on great champion rather than the younger contender.

I think that might be the case. I mean, what was the point of her saying that she got the same injury twice and competed successfully? Like, okay good for you?? (Unless something was lost in translation)

As far as her prediction goes, it’s completely reaslistic and I won’t be surprised of it happened, but I’m behind Medvedeva 100%

Hmmm... Are you sure about that? If we think about the past, I would say the opposite is more likely, actually. When I consider Zagitova's nerves vs Medvedeva's, it's really hard to not give Medvedeva a huge advantage there... She's just about the strongest lady in the sport in that aspect.

Remember Zagitova's momentum would be a double-edged sword. Because while originally no one would have any expectations on her, now they might... Now she herself might. How does she deal with that?

Medvedeva has nerves of steel indeed, but she's never been in such position before.
She'd been always healthy and start ready afair, now she took a break and her younger compatriot completely exploded on international scene. It must feel different.

Yes, if we are talking about pressure Alina is the one with the most expectations on her now. She's unbeaten this season and she's skating at home. (Don't forget that Med is also unbeaten this season even with her injury and has a much higher SB.) Alina herself said she struggles with nerves. Because Zhenya was out with injury, she's been out of the media spotlight for a little while now.
Any nerves that either of them have will not be from each other anyway imo - they train with each other remember? Alina will know the most about Zhenya's condition. Her biggest competition is her own nerves. If Alina makes a mistake in the SP again she won't catch Med.

Zhenya never expressed any fear of her younger teammates beating her though, in fact the opposite. And she had to be talked out of competing at Nats. She's definitely ready by now.

With Zagitova Medvedeva should now at least feel some pressure that she has not felt before over the last could of years. Should be interesting.

No, she's not. Alina is from Izhevsk. It is Zhenya who is skating at home as she was born in Moscow.

Anyway, Radio's just salty but at this point it's just a shake my head kind of moment. She should get a grip and start concentrating on herself, not lashing out. It's hardly Zhenya's fault that she has all these problems but I guess it's easier for her to blame someone else.

About the nerves, Alina is not as steady as Zhenya is. It sort of got taken for granted ever since last season that Alina would be a copy of Zhenya in this regard, I am not even entirely sure where this originated but it seems very apparent that this is not the case.

Zhenya's personality is pretty fierce so if anything, I expect her to come out chomping at the bit to regain her place in the standings, if she is indeed healthy now, knock on wood. Alina has all the pressure to keep that momentum, which is a worse position to be in. It's also her first season as Senior so she got thrust in the spotlight right away, without a single year to act as a learning buffer. Tough situation to be in.

Personally I'm glad to hear Zhenya's well because I am going to cross everything that her being at Europeans, along with Caro, are going to be enough to put a damper on Alina's out of control PCS.

Well Alina has been living and training Moscow for about two, three-ish years.
And besides, all three ladies are at home in Russia.

Not the same thing, and of course when we're talking broadly in terms of country (now it just depends how each of them responds to that). But if anyone is fully at home, it's Zhenya, which for her is probably a bonus (in terms of having that extra kick you're skating in your home city). We'll see, hopefully they all do well because it's a special feeling when you skate well in your own country.
