2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I think Zagitova performed that program much better than in the past. It's great if she's managed to get her nerves under control and will be able to skate it as well as she skates in practice. That's always what'd be preferred. With her TES, Medvedeva really has a tough time competing if Zagitova gets PCS like this. And also, Zagitova's potential TES advantage will become even greater when entering the free skate. The good news is that this was the first time she skated her SP that I actually found quite enjoyable to watch - So it seems like she has actually managed to control her nerves and stiffness somewhat and actually interpret the song better. Still has ways to go in my opinion but it will be interesting how the showdown between these two will do.

Kostner I don't really consider a huge threat because while it was expected that she could really deliver for the SP, she really struggles with making her FS content difficult enough to compete.

Yeah, I don't get complainings about Alina. I divide skaters into two categories: pure talents and good skaters. Obviously, Alina and Zhenya from the second one. Still, look how Medvedeva skates! But people forget that she's three years older than Zagtiova. Let's wait how Alina will skate in 2-3 years.

Also, I see Alina's program as a lesson for her. In the SP she's learning to do difficult transitions, to be able in the future do them without inconvenience and with more speed. The free program, I see as a lesson of musicality. You can see the reference with Medvedeva's 2015-2016 free program. There are also almost all jumping elements with the music. And now it seems like Evgenia at least can show it, that she feels the music.

So for 15 yo kid, this is very impressive. I hope she won't have problems with puberty.

i don't even open comp threads.... I used to read them.... it always was awful..
I don't think it's worth my nerves anymore... Remember The Nervous Cells Are Never Restored

for me. It's all about Evgenia's recovery right now. I just glad to see her doing pretty well ALREADY!
She was so emotional today. She missed competitions so much! She even cried after!

I also felt that she was emotional today and I cannot say that i feel this very often from Evgenia.
I think she skated, performed better today from this point of view.

Glad to see Evgenia back! Though her combo look more labored than usual it's totally understandable givrn that she's still coming back from an injury. Hope to see her in full condition on February.

This is actually the first time I enjoyed Alina's short. I think she performed more compared to her previous outings. I just wish she could hold her positions just a little bit longer as sometimes it feels rushed.

The Olympics is gonna be super interesting...

Rewatched 4 times already, Alina is simply amazing black swan.
This is what I want from figure skating: great esthetics, story and emotions.

Breathtaking performance for a 15yo kid. :drama:

Btw, anybody knows will Ladies SP be at least in a record on Eurosport? I mean, such boring and not interesting events as men and pairs are aired, but the competition where are two main favorites for the Olympic gold medal, and Kostner - are not. Just pathetic. At least Oly channel showed it.

and finally she convinced me with her short! gosh, it was a long wait, but it was totally worth it at the end! finally she started to show some emotions in this program, as well as nailing every single element :agree:

I think Evgenia's puberty awaiters will be converted into Alina's puberty awaiters soon enough.

Alina is looking more comfortable in the short. That lutz loop is :eeking:

It's really interesting, when after many 'so-so' or even 'meh' competitions, there comes this moment, when skater attains the ease and maestry level, letting her express emotions and artistry that were hidden or absent before and win the viewers over. :)

I'm not claiming Alina Zagitova is a greatest fs talent on earth, but saying she has stepped on a different level today. She showed "she's got it".

Last time Alina skated clean her free program at GP France. Will she repeat this at Euros? [emoji848]

For the first time this season I see in her SP what I saw back in August during the test skates. I actually prefer the SP over her FS. I just hope she eventually adds the 2A entry back because I would find it very beautiful and much better than the current one.

I think Evgenia's puberty awaiters will be converted into Alina's puberty awaiters soon enough.

And then into Sherbakova and Trusova puberty awaiters, and then there will be more talented juniors and the awaiters will die of old age.
