Why would you travel 1100 kilometers from St Petersburg to Saransk two weeks before Olympic Games you're substitute for? To have a sparring against some juniors, which is basically meaningless in reputation sense and with possibility of injury or having poor outcome influencing your confidence?
I've thought (unlike in the past) RusFed decisions this season were close to perfect, but this one...? :unsure:

PS. Stasya vs Anya - what the heck am I supposed to do now?
I'm completely not used to have two faves in one tourney. :eek:

Yes, I don't know about Stasya. It's not like she really needs that competition. And she'll have to go without her coach. Based on an interview with Sokolovskaya, they are not sure whether and when the substitutes are going to Japan. I know Sotskova is supposed to be going only on 9 February since she has been told she is definitely out of the team event. The are presumably not going to need substitutes for the team event either. But they have to travel there at some point. Maybe also 9 February, together with Sotskova?

A possible explanation is that Stasya is in good shape. But she has the track record of inconsidtency. Her stellar performance in the toughest field one can imagine will help her to boost the confidence and send the message to the world that she is in terrific shape. A weak performance though strategically will be a big blow to her. May be they are willing to take the risk as it is now or never.

Only artists and soldiers, I guess. I sometimes hear from my foreign colleagues that Russian engineers are too liberal even by Western standards. :biggrin:

A weak performance in jr. nats will cancel out any positive effect from her good free at sr. nats....
maybe that's what you were saying...
 
So, who will take a gold medal? Konstantinova, Trusova or Kostornaya? 🤔

I'd say if all girls are clean:

1. Konstantinova
2. Trusova
3. Kostornaya

If as always: Stanislava will pop/fall one/two times, and Sasha will fall on 4S or ured, then:

1. Kostornaya
2. Konstantinova
3. Trusova
I guess I'll need to think more about it. 🤔

Do you really think some junior competition in the middle of taiga with 100 spectators is able to resonate into the world? :think:
 
Wonder why Kurakova is out? She participated in Russian Cup at Junior level, and was hoping that she would be able to leverage her results there to get JGP next season. Such a pity...

I think Trusova will win if clean, followed by Alena and Stanislava. But I want Tarakanova on the podium, too.
