2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

What is going to happen with the GPs? Eight Russian girls, excluding juniors, are in the top 24. What if there's a ninth? (if Konstantinova goes to WC and Gubanova does JWC) are feds forced to invite three Russians to each GP then? what will happen when there's more than nine?

well not all will get 2 spot. By being in top 24 you are guaranteed 1 spot only. Isnt Konstantinova already in top 24 SB? she is guaranteed 1 spot if move up to senior
 
Alina is my skater on the women's side - I love a girl who pushes the technical side, especially one who has her own style as well - and I'm thrilled that she won the gold. I got exactly the podium I wanted; Alina on top, followed by the star of the past two years Evgenia and then my home girl Kaetlyn (we East Coasters have each other's backs here in the tiny population part of Canada).

But I'm not as fully happy as I expected to be. Evgenia really won me over yesterday. She's an artist on skates with incredible jump consistency, a true competitor. When she finished her FP, I wanted her to win. I hope she stays on and continues to build the creative potential she's developing. I think she has it in her to become one the universally beloved full package skaters on Mao, Yuna and Caro level. She's that good, she has it all.

Russian skating is awesome. Your women, seniors and juniors, are going to win medals everywhere for years to come. Congrats to Alina!
 
Sotskova might be replaced due to poor results. And the fact that they LOVE both Konstantinova and Gubanova...

But is difficult for Konstantinova to even compete for the podium at junior level. Be in the first ten at senior it's the only hope the russian fed can have calling her over Maria.

They can do it only if they rethink that Gubanova have more chance, but after see the list, i don't think something like that can happen.
 
There’s all this talk about them changing the rules regarding backloading. Is this true? I somehow doubt it, because how fair would it be not to let the skater decide when they want to jump?

The poster repeatedly says this but I agree with you. I think that Gubanova gets underrated by the fed if anything. Saying that the fed favors her is a truly bizarre statement considering the past.

Why would they? Guess how many skaters had a fully backloaded layout in the FS...

It'd be so odd of them to force everyone to the same mold rather than encouraging more diverse program layouts.

I was thinking they might replace Sotskova for worlds, but I really don't think the fed realistically can say that Konstantinova would definitely do better so I doubt that would happen. If Tsurskaya was first alternate, that might have been another story...

Gubanova is definitely not loved by the fed. On the contrary, she was robbed a well-deserved WJC opportunity.
For some unknown reason, her PCS has dropped 3 points from JrNats to FCoR despite four clean performances in both competitions.I wouldn't exactly call that favourism. She was lowballed by the fed, if you'd ask me.

that being said, I'm kinda stressed for Dasha. If Gubanova does go to JWC (meaning Konstantinova goes to senior WC) and gets a higher score than 196.55, Dasha becomes Russian eligible-senior No. 9 on the SB list. She's not loved by the Fed at all and so I doubt she'd get the Rostelecom host spot if given only 1 GP by another fed. It'd probably go Pogorilaya :disapp:

That's assuming Pogo is healthy. Although I desperately hope that she will recover by next season, she recently did not appear in a show she was scheduled to perform in, and an interview she gave at the beginning of this month said that she has yet to even fully diagnose her back injury. Knowing that, I'm not very optimistic. Back injuries are tricky business, and rarely heal fully. :cry:

the real debate... probably Buyanova. if Konstantinova was at CSKA, maybe her, but she's not...

Oh dear. This does not sound good. I'm not a Pogo fan but I really feel for her :(
