Mirai or Karen are better medal threats if they skate clean. Mirai because she has the extra triple (and the big axel) as well as higher PCS. Karen is a better overall skater. However, thatis if both ladies skate clean and Bradie is more consistent but I could also see judges treating her as a jumping bean - and they often can be beaten pc wise - until they are on the international stage and constatntly skate clean then the scores go up ie. Alina, Maria so don't count Bradie out.

Definitely a bronze is in reach and with Osmond now skating two straight bad short programs for her (though the girl fights); Gabby not having enough pcs wise (she should have tried the quad toe here.) an American couldpodium. Tough somehow fourth place sounds right - pewter if in the US.

What Mirai needs to do is make her case undeniable. A second 3A in the FS would be nice, but I feel like that's asking too much.

Mirai's triple axel is a thing of beauty…that currently requires 15 seconds of intense concentration to set up. Even if she can tack a 2T onto it, I don't see how she can set up a second 3A as of now.

Technically yes. But Mirai is the 2nd woman to have 8 CLEAN triples. And the first senior... technically. Rika Kihara was the first. Mao Asada got two carrots in 2014. (I love me some Mao too).

Yes, Nagasu was a pleasant surprise last night. FWIW, her score was pretty much right on par with Tennell’s score at SA. That effort was a big factor in the US securing team bronze so she should be proud of herself there.

Just watched Mirai's free skate on NBC. Wow!That was a good skate. She jumps and spins like a boss.

I have also been a big skeptic of Mirai's ability to get back to the top of US skating, and the choice to put her in the team event, but it was great to see her succeed last night. She definitely did her part to earn our Olympic medal.

Last night the focus made sense, I was more referring to commercials that played before the games started, and the piece they showed before the opening ceremonies of random USA athletes. Bradie got the only screen time of any of the us ladies. We can agree to disagree but I will always believe white and blonde is the most marketable in the eyes of nbc/advertisers. Look at the sheer amount of coverage Lindsey Vonn gets. Mirai came back from a heartbreak four years to make her second Olympic team eight years after the first, armed with the hardest jump she taught her self at age 23. That to me is way more interesting then girl comes out of nowhere to win US nationals. &#55358;&#56631;&#55356;&#57339;*

What you seem to want to forget is that Bradie is the reigning US National Champion. NBC is going to promote winners because that sells. Intentionally or not, your comment is racist.

Mirai was super. Never have seen her skate better. Yes, I too am glad to admit I was wrong about her skating. Only wish she could have been this good all these years when she faltered.

Regardless, I think you're vastly overestimating their potential here, especially in light of team event performance. Though of course, this isn't the thread to discuss that...

Katelyn gets all the hype but I think Gabby is a better skater. Her performance in the Team event was great. I expect to see Alina and Evgenia be 1-2 in the Ladies. They both are so good, It is hard to favor either one. But it is the Olympics where strange things do happen.

A clean Kaetlyn would be truly great, but Gabby has the stronger mind and will. I can imagine her in the bronze position. For Mirai, I don't want to get greedy. What she already did is incredible, and anything more is just gravy. I consider her the face of the US bronze medal.
