Congrats to Alexei for making his second JGPF! I really think he's a dark horse for a 4CC spot!

I'd like to see him at 4CC. Like other people have said, he's rough, but he really won me over this JGP season. And I loved what he said in the interview after he won in Croatia about watching Joseph Phan and hoping he'd land the quad and everything. Very classy and genuine.

I just realized that Alexei will need to compete at a senior B to be eligible for 4CC. JGPF isn't until early December, so he could do a October or November senior b.

Also I think he's not a us citizen yet.

No. But saying in the crazy case he is in top 3 for olympics he wouldn't be able to go. A bit stream

I just don't want to see Nathan or anyone else do 5 and 6 quads in the long program. I'm neutral on Nathan this year because I know he's going to land lots of jumps and go to the Olympics anyway, and I'm neutral on Jason because he's the federation's baby and of course will go to the Olympics, no doubt. The rest of the US men will be the big excitement for me! I'm dying to see how they prove themselves on the GP !!!

Nationals is going to be a bloodbath this year in the men's competitions and whomever is sent to the Olympics to represent the US will have fought hard and long for that honor. Yes I definitely have my favorites but respect any man who makes it into the top 3.

By the same token, I hope not to see any more comments (which never were from you, Mrs. P) suggesting that Jason deserves extra consideration for World (or Olympic) team selection because of the belief that his presence would affect ticket sales. Or because he has gotten umpteen-gazillion views on social media.

Jason's scores from judges have made a strong case for him in the past, and I expect the same this season.

Let's start the Alexei for 4CCs train.... He's certainly not the style of skater I would normally like, but he is so engaging, I do want to see more.

As for Jason getting favors or being a favorite, please, :noshake: He fights for every point he earns at a comp, and he earns them. As it should be.

And I certainly have never seen any Jason fan comment here that social media views or Jason's popularity with audiences should count toward selection for a Worlds or Olympic team. Would that it could, I'm all for changing the criteria.

But, as a Jason fan, I do indeed, when the occasion merits, intend to post about the 15 million (I have not checked very recently) social media views of Riverdance, Jason's popularity with the skating audience, and that these facts IMHO parallel, confirm and support what the judges or USFS may see. Placet. As does Jason's skating.

So have I. However. I think it's important that we send whomever delivers under the pressure at Nationals. If they all skate their best, Nathan, Vincent and Max will beat him technically. If Adam is landing his quads, I think he is the biggest threat to take the 3rd spot. Nathan and Vincent are both very good under pressure and I think the battle will be between Max, Jason and Adam for the final spot. Of Course, Alexander Johnson, and Timothy Dolensky have both been looking good as well. Ross had a rough event recently but he's always a wild card as well.

Such a deep field of Men for the US and it will truly be a battle to get on the Olympic

Mrrrice, why do you think Adam the one with the biggest threat to take the 3rd spot? The same premise you have placed on Adam can be applied to Jason also. And Jason has beaten Adam in every face-to-face competition since 2013 Skate America. Adam has a chance to break that streak at NHK Trophy next month. Jason also has a higher ISU PB than Adam (and the second highest among all U.S. men and only behind just Nathan) and on the whole currently scores higher PCS internationally. Jason is also very good under pressure and a good competitor, no worse than Vincent. Having quads =/= handling pressure better.

At this point, I don't think anyone, other than Nathan, has a firm grip on the U.S. spots. Vincent dazzled back in July, but we haven't seen him in a while.

We'll have a better idea of Adam's (and Vincent's and Ross') state this weekend at Finlandia.

But I sincerely want to know your thought process on what made you think Adam was the biggest threat for the third spot over, let's say, Max or Jason. I want to know if there's something you see that I'm missing here.

I definitely think Adam -- even considering we haven't seen him in a while -- is a contender for the Olympic spot, but not sure whether he is the biggest threat (behind Nathan/Vincent) among the rest of the men, which is what you asserted in your previous post.

I guess I have the same questions. Adam hasn't done any competition so far, has he? I haven't even seen practice clips... although tbh I'm not so large a fan that I've been hunting them.

Until I see otherwise, he's on my list of contenders. He may move off - he may move up - he may move off then back on as the season progresses.

But for now, I'm completely neutral.

This was actually a mistake. My "pre-season" team was actually Nathan, Vincent, and Max. Without knowing how Joshua is doing health wise, I don't have him listed at all. Look, I could be wrong and I've been wrong before. Our depth this season is as strong as it's ever been and this is the first time in a long time that I think we will have a Man on the Podium at the Games. At this point, I think I'd have all of my eggs in Nathan's basket. Of all of our men, he is the one who's been to beat the best skaters from around the World. His 4CC win was a big deal.

But Adam Rippon has never landed his quads in a competition, has he? Anyway, it will be interesting to see how he, Zhou and Miner fare at Finlandia Trophy.
