Ashley's overall skating doesn't stand up against not just the top international skaters but even here at Nationals. Her shimmys and head bobs and OTT facial expressions seem to almost be a cover from some of her weaknesses on the ice which the judges ignore. Slow spins few transitions two foot skating.

Quick impressions from KC: Ashley's program is just fun and the crowd loved it, Gracie skated ok but didn't wow..such a contrast from when I saw her in Milwaukee, Mirai was enthralling, you could have heard a pin drop during most of the performance, Karen had a lights out skate happy for her, wish Mariah had skated clean such a cute program, gutted for Courtney and Hannah.

Did anyone else feel that the 3-3s were called generously here? Honestly a lot of them looked sketchy (>) to me; Ashley and Karen were among the beneficiaries in my opinion.

Caroline Zhang's 3Lo3Lo was ur too. I think it's a problem because it sends the wrong message to US skaters who have trouble competing internationally. They need honest feedback from the judges not patronizing pats on the back.

Ashley's 3t looked pre-rotated. They needed to play it in slow motion, but they didn't.

Everyone watching practices has said they forgot how fast she was, that she has a fire to her skating and it's evident that she wants this. I believe she will find within herself what she needs to put up the fight to get on the podium.

I don't disagree really with the results. I think Gracie was held up a bit. But not much. Caroline Zhang maybe deserved two more points pc wise or so. Happy for her. Not impressed though overall with these ladies. I expected a real battle royale and it was more of who would skate cleanest.

Yes. And I find her heavy, plastered-on makeup and artificial-looking new hair color kind of trashy and OTT as well. It's a shame, because she's very pretty. Almost like she's trying to get us to focus on her OTT facial expressions and not her clunky skating.

Well Ashley's making a statement ;) She's always been that love or hate kind of skater. Once she compared herself with blue-cheese - you either really really love it or really really hate it. For me, I love her!

I wasn't debating it. Just posting what he said -- and I said it was interesting, not surprising. Interesting namely cause Charlie was upfront about it.

Yes, Charlie was normally very PC and not straight shooting. Charlie knows SS and see which girl is having a harder time. I think Ashley's programs generally are very clever, they hide her weaknesses well, but for trained eyes, cough* judges *cough*, it should be very obvious she's not in the top tier group of skaters.

I think the placement is correct for top 4. Point gap between the ones fighting for the medals are also appropriate.

1. Karen's 3T looked URed. I would give it a <
2. Mirai's 3Loop looked URed. Definitely a <. have to say i'm surprised at her score and her PCS, higher than Gracie and Karen. I guess those 3As really invigorate her prospect for national judges. I call this the Arakawa effect.
3. Ashley's 3T looked Ured. Same with 2A. two separate <. Good PE though. Deserve #1 for PCS.
4. Tessa's 3T is called. so that is that.
5. Gracie. PCS should be 5 points lower. GOE for the combo should be negative.

I don't get why Tessa's toeloop got an UR when it was rotated about the same amount as the combination jumps from the skaters who placed above her. :slink:

They reviewed it, so they did look at the replay.

Mrs P, you know I respect you and your opinions, but let's be real.

There really wasn't a combo among the top tier that would have been a legit 3-3 internationally.

Again, the tech callers at US Nats are doing these women no favors.

Gracie Gold was scored perfectly. She's got great skating skills and that combo was comparable to last years. Her PCS is where it is because of program constuction, transitions and skating skills. The girls got great edges and commitment to her coreography. Her jumps are coming back now that she is conditioning correctly and she has a fire to fight for it now. She had a similar issue Skate America 2015 and was scorred similarly by the international judges so it was consistent with how Gracie scores as well. I was actuallt expecting the judges to inflate it and I was surpised when it was a fair score.
