I'm going to the free program tomorrow! I'm super excited! :cheer: I'm watching the short program on the livestream right now.

Interesting mix of Rolling in the Deep and Ain't No Mountain High Enough for the Czech team.

Also nice to see a guy on the team. I'd like to see more men in synchronized skating.

Aw they are so happy even though they're in 7th. That's good to see.

The two Russian teams were better coordinated than other teams. After the short program:

1. Team Russia 1 - 62.55
2. Team Russia 2 - 62.34
3. Team Finland 1 - 61.55

Team Russia 1 could not hold onto the podium position, losing more than 20 points in the free program, but Team Russia 2 captured the World Junior Synchro Championship.

The final results:

1. Team Russia 2 168.83

Congratulations to Team Russia 2 aka Team Junost with winning the World Junior Champion title! Also congratulations to Teams Finland. Two medals it's very good result. Teams USA and Canada - also very strong result, but they should do something with their short programs.

And sorry for Team Russia 1... Ugh... :(

What did team Russia #1 do to get such a huge deduction? I don't know anything about Synchro rules.

It was the falls....they had a few single ones, but the worst was during the intersection when 4 of them fall at once. :(

Thanks shiroKJ, I have never seen a fall in Synchro. Are there videos of the performances available? Never mind, I just saw them on YouTube. Weird falls...It's too bad because they have a great program.....

Worlds is in Colorado Springs April 7. I'm going. I bought tickets last week, but I waited too long, they aren't that good. But I think synchro will probably be better if you're higher up in the bleachers.

I was right there in the front row and sadly watched it all unfold! It was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever witnessed. :( I don't think there was a dry eye in the stands at the end of their performance, and of course they got a standing ovation from the crowd for pushing through despite the problems. Nine Falls in one program is a HUGE deal in synchro, especially when you look at the protocols and see how close the scores are. It's a mandatory 1 point deduction per fall, plus negative GOE for the element that the fall occurred in.

Keep in mind, these girls are all between 13 and 18 years old and have worked their butts off for the past year to train for this moment. These high performance synchronized skating teams train just as long and as hard as any singles skater or pairs skater or ice dancer. They were all so upset, understandably so. I suspect that for a lot of them, it was their first time ever in North America. I can't recall when junior synchro worlds was last held on the end of the planet, if ever.

Of course, I am certain that they will learn from this unfortunate occurrence and come back next season in better shape than ever. :)

gosh.. can you imagine what 9 falls would be with the new rules for falls for the other disciplines??? i cannot do the maths but it would be a lot.
